large model (5' in length)
representing both the Brasil and Argentina is one of at least four examples originally built in 1958,
possibly by Art Model Studios. Appearing to be in good condition
initially, inspection revealed that the model had been rather poorly
refurbished circa 1964 (following the refit of the actual vessels) using cardboard to replicate the new upper
decks. The acrylic panels used for the outer bulkheads and windows of the promenade
deck had become brittle and cracked, requiring replacement. The railings were
severely damaged and mainmast broken. Complete dismantling,
stripping and
total restoration was necessary. All paint was removed and correct
colors reapplied. The upper superstructure was entirely re-built in
wood and to proper scale. A complete set of custom transfers was
designed, printed an applied. New brass stanchions and railings were fitted and
brass name plates replaced the original paper labels. Call or
email models@cabinclass.com
for information regarding restoration of your vintage model.
