The Jervis Bay Goes Down by Gene Fowler. This is a rare and wonderful book, published in 1941, which contains an ode to the sinking of the Jervis Bay, which occurred while the ship was valiantly attempting to draw fire away from her convoy. The book also contains a reprint of a 1940 New York Tribune article which reported the sinking. A brave vessel not often remembered. Dust jacket intact - a nice item!

Famous American Ships by Frank O. Braynard. It appears that this volume was especially bound for the American Export Lines, and most likely given as a Christmas Gift. A small card was found tucked between the pages printed: "Merry Christmas 1957 - American Export Lines, Inc.". The line's flag appears on the cover, and the book is a wonderful reference piece, filled with information highlighted with many of Mr. Braynard's well-known pen & ink drawings, as well as photographs. A very nice item!

Newsweek Magazine - We could not resist this copy of the January, 1954 edition of Newsweek Magazine, featuring a great tinted photograph of Cunard's Caronia on the cover. A pity the related article on the cruise industry is not as impressively illustrated, although there is an aerial shot of Luxury Liner Row on Manhattan.

Great World Cruise of 1959 - commemorative hard-bound book. Absolutely marvelous condition, with only some very slight soiling to the spine. Many autographs on the page provided.

Queen Mary - A magnificent book by James Steele, recounting the design, building, and many years of service of the "Stateliest Ship". The Queen Mary aficionado will find this work fascinating. Forward by John Maxtone-Graham. Truly a complete work, lavishly illustrated. This example is brand new with dust jacket. A must for your library!

Saved! by William Hoffer - A delight to pick up this signed, first edition of this classic tale of the tragic night in July of 1956 when the M/S Stockholm and T/n Andrea Doria met with fate on a foggy Atlantic south of Nantucket. A must for any student of the disaster. This example is excellent with a very tight binding and nice dust jacket.

A very nice first edition of William Hoffer's "Saved!", the detailed account of the fateful meeting of T/n Andrea Doria and M/S Stockholm in July of 1956, off the coast of Nantucket. This example is in excellent condition, including the dust jacket - showing only some very minor fading along the exposed edges of the cover.

Memories of the Cruise to the North Cape, Lands of the Vikings, Russia, and Northern Europe on board M.S. Gripsholm. Another wonderful memento from the Swedish American Line - this book was published following a cruise on board Gripsholm from 29 June-15 August, 1961. The book contains excerpts from the daily "Cruise News," as well as tipped in color photos of the ship and various sights. Wonderful, sometimes humorous reading. Nicely hardbound in tan and dark green. Very nice condition.

Memories of the Cruise of the Year to the Greek Islands, Mediterranean and Black Sea on board M.S. Gripsholm, 8 March-28 April, 1962. A very nice book, hardbound in dark green with gold lettering. Filled with excerpts from the daily "Cruise News," published on board, as well as some tipped in color photos of various sights. There is a small, black and white portrait of the ship, her abstract of log for the voyage, and her passenger list. Interesting, informative, and sometimes humorous reading! Excellent condition.

Memories of the Great Cruise Around Africa on board M.S. Gripsholm. A very nice example of the books produced as mementos of voyages aboard the vessels of the Swedish American Line. Much of the text of the book is taken from the daily "Cruise News," published on board during the trip, from 8 February-29 April, 1965. Additionally, there are tipped in color images of various ports, sights, and of the ship. Hardbound in tan and dark brown with gold lettering. Excellent condition and fascinating reading!

Memories of the Cruise Around South America on board the M.S. Gripsholm, 23 January-12 March, 1970. Another wonderful book, produced both as a memento and as advertising to promote repeat bookings. This book contains copious text taken from the daily "Cruise News," published while the vessel was at sea. It also contains her abstract of log, list of officers, and her passenger list. There are a number of tipped in color photos, including a very nice portrait of the ship, just inside the front cover. Hardbound in khaki and dark brown, with gold lettering. Excellent condition.

Memories of the Cruise to the North Cape, Lands of the Vikings and Northern Europe on board M.S. Gripsholm. This cruise began on 6 July, 1973, and ended on 23 August. The book contains much text taken from the "Cruise News," published daily while the vessel was at sea. In addition, there are tipped in color photos of various sights, and an aerial photo of the ship. These books were sent to passengers some time after the cruise had ended, in hope that the memories might prompt a repeat booking! In fact, this particular example is accompanied by a letter from SAL to that effect, and a small brochure - both found tucked inside the front cover. Hardbound in yellow and black. Excellent condition.

Souvenir of the Cruise to the South Seas - 10/11-12/17, 1973. A wonderful, hard-bound book from Gripsholm, with maps, tipped-in color illustrations, and copies of the ship's on board "Cruise News", all bound together with a passenger list. A nice memento in excellent condition.

Memories of the Second Cruise of a Lifetime Around the World on board M.S. Kungsholm, January-April 1956. This is a wonderful book, filled with excerpts from the daily "Cruise News," as well as a number of tipped in color photos of numerous sights and events. The inside cover features a world map, showing the ship's route. A list of passengers and the ship's abstract of log are included. Hardbound in grey and dark blue, with metallic gold lettering.

Memories of the Cruise to the North Cape - A very nice souvenir book from Kungsholm, dated 6/26 - 8/12/70. Bound in yellow with a black spine, this book features tipped-in color illustrations, including the ship's portrait. Also, paper-clipped to the first page are two identification cards used by the passengers, made out in English & Russian, and bearing a stamp of the Chief Purser's signature. Very nice!

This is a rare and wonderful book entitled "The Broström Concern of Shipping Companies and Their Ships." The book contains numerous black and white photos of the vessels of the many lines owned by Broström, including the Swedish American Line. In addition to portraits, there are some passenger ship interior shots, and a number of color renderings. There are also reproductions of two portraits of the line's founder, Axel Broström, and his son, Dan Broström. The latter depicts Mr. Broström holding plans for the M/S Gripsholm. A short chapter is dedicated to each line, showing the house flag and funnel markings; and opposite the opening page of most chapters is a full page color rendering by Einer Ström. Shipping lines included are the Tirfing Steamship Company, the Swedish Orient Line, the Ferm Steamship Company, the Motortank Company, the Swedish East Asiatic Company, the Swedish America Mexico Line, the Swedish America Line, the Halland Steamship Company, the Gothenburg Towage and Salvage Company, and the Albatross Company. Of note is a portrait of the Stockholm, un-named, and described as under construction by the Götaverken shipyard. Some staining on the cover, and the spine has become a bit brittle. The covers have also curved a bit, and there are the remnants of a child's crayon marks on the reverse. The interior pages remain in excellent condition, and due to the rarity of this item, we do not hesitate to grade the piece very good plus overall.
