Delta Line

9872 Delta Line (unknown) 1965   $24.00

This is a great double deck of playing cards in a green velvet & gold foil slide box with a green ribbon pull. Cards used, but in excellent condition - complete with two Jokers per deck. The ship pictured on the card backs is one of the line's container vessels - apparently photographed just off New Orleans in the Mississippi. A very nice deck!

French Line

2640 French Line De Grasse 1949   $18.00

A First Class passenger list, 7/7/49, eastbound voyage. Brochure/booklet format in light blue bearing signal flags. Some minor corner damage to the back cover.

2862 French Line De Grasse 1951   $18.00

Another passenger list, this one 1/27/51. Appears to have been a single-class Caribbean cruise. Pencil dots next to some passengers' names, corner dings, else very nice.

11248 French Line France 1959   $8.00

A neat handout acquired with a group of items from a 1959 crossing on Liberté. This sheet lists the line's total tonnage, (1959) and lists the number of CGT vessels in service at 78. It projects an increase of tonnage for 1960, with 10 additional vessels to be added to the fleet. It also announces the planned 1962 entry into service of the SS France. The piece had been folded once, and a tear exists at top and bottom. Still very good condition, and an interesting item.

13274 French Line France 1967   $12.00

Wonderful ephemera from the SS France! Four betting stubs from the "horse races" held on board for the entertainment of the passengers. Wooden horses were advanced along a course set on the floor, and passengers could place bets on the outcome. These particular items came to us with some menus and programs from a 1967 voyage. Note that we have quite a number available in various colors from different races, and they may not exactly match those pictured.

12917 French Line Ile de France 1954   $30.00

A very nice Cabin Class passenger list from the Ile de France, sailing from New York on April 1, 1954. Colorful signal flag cover. Saved for us by Miss Mary O'Brien, who you will find in the list. A great example.

11242 French Line Liberté 1959   $8.00

A neat, shield-shaped luggage sticker from Liberté, this style a bit simpler than those found from earlier in her career. Dated 1958, though these were obtained with some promotional materials from the following year. We acquired several of these; each has minor adhesive loss to the reverse, but none has been used.

8487 French Line Normandie 1935   $12.00

An eastbound passage ticket envelope from CGT, acquired in a lot of paper from a crossing aboard Normandie. Excellent condition, though unfortunately without the ship's name.

8488 French Line Normandie 1935   $12.00

A westbound passage ticket envelope - another item acquired with a lot of Normandie paper. The ship's name does not appear on this item, still a nice piece of ephemera from CGT.

10886  French Line Paris 1934   $175.00

This is an interesting item recently acquired - an oil-on-board portrait of SS Paris. The work is signed "T J Collin" followed by the word "copy" written at an angle. One wonders if this indicates that the piece is a copy of a work by T J Collin, of if T J Collin is the artist who executed this painting, or none of the above! Well done, though we would not call it "professionally" done; certainly circa early 30's as indicated by the condition of the mount. This is a charming piece, and we see liner portraits so infrequently, it was impossible to turn this one down!

8861 French Line various 1925   $12.00

A wonderful, typed letter on French Line stationery, sent from the "Passenger Traffic Department", and extolling the virtues of traveling in the former 3rd Class quarters of Rochambeau, La Savoie and De Grasse. It is noted that the new rates and altered accommodations would be especially attractive to "...students, war veterans, and tourists who desire to practice economy".

12420 French Line various 1956   $22.00

A very nice brochure which opens to a 20 page passage rates booklet for Liberté, Ile de France, and Flandre, issued 27 August, 1965. The traveler ended up sailing on the Queen Mary, however she was kind enough to save for us the CGT and US Lines ephemera she received from her booking agent as well. Very nice condition.

12963 Furness Bermuda Line Ocean Monarch 1950   $9.00

Saved for us by Miss Mary O'Brien, a baggage tag from a November 1951 cruise aboard the Ocean Monarch - certainly a delightful voyage as the ship was brand new. The tag is in very nice, used condition.

12772 Furness Bermuda Line (unknown) 1930   $85.00

Here we have a little, leather-bound, pocket sized book from the Furness Line titled "The Idle Hour". But wait! It's not a book at all, but a cleverly designed case holding a deck of playing cards! This has got to be one of the most delightful decks of cards we have seen in quite a while. The case is stitched leather with a snap closure and gilt detailing, including the line flag which appears at lower right. When closed, three sides of the cards are exposed, giving the impression of gilt-edged pages. The cards are from the famous British firm of John Waddington, Ltd. of Leeds and London, (the case by Mead and Fuller). The card backs are decorated with a mirrored house flag in deep purple and metallic gold, and though well-used and showing slight cupping, the edges retain a hint of their gilt finish. The deck contains 52 cards with no Jokers. Wonderful!

9399 Furness Bermuda Line (unknown) 1958   $22.00

Furness Warren Line

Grace Line

16632 Grace Line n/a 1938   $449.99

A wonderful example of 1930's steamship advertising! This is a Grace Line travel poster. A true pity that the artist is unidentified, but the work is a delight! The poster depicts a pair of Norman Rockwell-esque pirates contemplating a ping-pong table, presumably placed on the sports deck of a Grace Line steamer that has been boarded somewhere in the Caribbean. The poster has been mounted to a sheet of ¼" Masonite, and there has been some debate as to whether or not this is its original state. Our opinion is that, if not original, at least the mount was professionally done and was executed early in the poster's life, and has resulted in the preservation of this marvelous image! A true gem for the Grace Line aficionado or the transportation art and poster collector.

12849 Grace Line Santa Lucia 1934   $225.00

We were quite pleased to locate this wonderful Grace Line portrait of the Santa Lucia, unframed, but still with its original, custom printed mat. Considering the vintage of this piece, the colors are wonderfully preserved, and any toning from age or cigarette smoke has been kept at an extreme minimum. The mat features the Grace Line globe logo at top center. The line name and ports of call appear at bottom, and the ship's name, along with the names of her sisters, appears just beneath the image at left. Interestingly, much of the information printed on the mat was found to be printed almost identically beneath the mat on the image itself. Much in need of an appropriate frame, we found one in black with a cable border, which turned out to be amazingly similar to an original frame found recently on a portrait of the Nieuw Amsterdam of approximately the same vintage. The mat, as it was unprotected when found, does show some scratching and staining at the bottom corners, and there are a few, very small scratches on the image itself. Still very good to excellent due not only to its rarity but the quality of the image.

12351 Grace Line Santa Lucia 1940   $24.00

Quite a nice list from Grace Line's Santa Lucia, sailing for New York from Valparaiso on July 12, 1940. An extensive itinerary, visiting several South American ports. Eight pages plus cover. The list has been folded vertically, but this has not left a hard crease, only a bend in the card stock. There is a light stain at right, else very nice.
