| 2607 | Cunard | Aurania | 1925 | $3,200.00 | |
Those who appreciate the artwork of Charles Dixon will love this - an original watercolor of 'Aurania' at Dover. A rare opportunity to own an original painting by this well-known, historic illustrator. A member of the Royal Academy, Dixon is responsible for some of the most magnificent steamship illustrations ever rendered, and many examples of postcards attributed to him can be found on our postcard pages. The vast majority of postcard portraits were executed for Cunard, though we have examples from Red Star and Holland-America. Dover seems a popular setting, as the "White Cliffs" appear in many of his paintings. This particular work may well have been a study for a larger painting, and some faint notes in pencil by the artist, including the name of the ship, appear along the edge, partially hidden by the mat board. The vessel's funnel coloring indicates a war-time scene, and she may be engaged in mine-sweeping, as some type of apparatus appears in the water along side, suspended from her forward well deck. |

| 9473 | Cunard | Lusitania | 1907 | $1,250.00 | |
This is a great tin lithograph of Lusitania, produced for Cunard, and intended to be displayed in the offices of their many agents. This is the large version, measuring over 3' across. There are some specks of rust & spotting overall - much more prevalent towards the edges of the piece, and nearly non-existent toward the center. One of the previous owners had brushed the piece with varnish. This was very well done, and has served to protected it, keeping the colors quite bright - unfortunately it prevents us from attempting to remove the rust spots!* *Please note that the long-awaited restoration of this piece has been completed. The work entailed removing a coat of yellowed varnish, minimizing the appearance of small rust spots that had developed over time, touching up some chips and scratches on the vessel's hull, and re-sealing the piece with clear lacquer. Some peripheral scratches were left untouched as they affected minimally the overall appearance of the piece. The result is a much cleaner and brighter image befitting the subject - a very dramatic portrait, and a great example of early twentieth century Cunard Line advertising. Note that we have not yet had an opportunity to re-image the piece, and the digital photo that appears on the listing page was taken prior to restoration. |

| 15713 | Cunard | QE2 | 1971 | $29.99 | |
|
A very nice, illustrated guide, promoting the 1971-1972 Caribbean Cruise aboard QE2. This impressive piece of advertising for the new ship is filled with photographs. Cutaway fans will find an impressive rendering of the ship so illustrated, in the centerfold. The cover features a dramatic night photo, and the aerial portraits within offer an excellent record of the vessel in her original configuration. Were this piece to appear in the rack at your local travel agency today, it is doubtful that anyone would notice it is over 30 years old! |

Tourist Class accommodations on board the RMS Queen Mary. This plan, issued in 1964, is printed in black and white, and features eleven photographs of the vessel and her public spaces. Among them are a charming children's party in progress, and a large portrait (over 14" across) of the vessel at sea. Cabin Class accommodations on board the RMS Queen Mary. This plan, printed entirely in black and white, features ten photos of the vessel's passenger spaces. There are also a pair of diagrams illustrating the ship's stabilizers and describing their function. The plan opens to 38" across at the centerfold. When opened, we discovered a vertical crease that obviously occurred when the plan was folded initially, as it remains in unused condition. This example lacks a printer's date code, but was accompanied by the ship's Tourist Class plan (listed separately) and clearly dated 1964. |
