Alaska Steamship Co.

11604 Alaska Steamship Co. Alaska 1934   $16.00

On board SS Alaska, southbound from Skagway for Seattle. This issue of "The Morning Alaskan" was printed on Saturday, September 1, 1934, and contains the ship's passenger list. Great advertisements. Some separation at the folds, but still in very good condition. A great piece of Alaska Steamship Company ephemera!

11600 Alaska Steamship Co. Haleakala 1934   $20.00

On board the Haleakala on August 20, 1934. Chancellor Hitler assumes the presidency of the Reich while 10 percent of Germans oppose his rise to power. The names of Hollywood stars James Cagney, Lupe Valez, Dolores Del Rio, and Ramon Navarro were put forth as possible communist sympathizers, prompting angry denials. Helen Hull Jacobs won her third consecutive title at Forest Hills. George Bernard Shaw escaped injury in an automobile accident in England, and the widow of Chancellor Dollfuss and her children returned to Vienna from Italy where they had been guests of Mussolini. Great advertisements, some sea-going poetry, and the not-to-be-missed "Naughtycal Hits and Misses"! A truly delightful piece of ephemera from the Alaska Steamship Company.

11601 Alaska Steamship Co. Haleakala 1934   $20.00

Quite a bit of not-so-politically-correct humor in this issue of the Radio News, printed and distributed aboard SS Haleakala on August 21, 1934. The daily "Naughtycal Hits and Misses" is delightful, as this editorial recounts the many unusual, and mostly humorous experiences of several individuals in the ship's compliment of passengers.

11602 Alaska Steamship Co. Haleakala 1934   $20.00

The final installment in a set of five issues of the "Radio News" printed on board SS Haleakala of the Alaska Steamship Company. This one dated Wednesday, August 22, 1934. More politically incorrect humor and news of the day. In Berlin, Hitler attempts to convert the 10 percent of Germans who opposed is assumption of the presidency of the Reich, apparently by arresting them! Great ads, enjoyable reading, and a wonderfully preserved bit of ephemera!

Alcoa Line

8847 Alcoa Line (unknown) 1952   $34.00

A wonderful, velvet-covered slide box with two decks of cards - one red, one dark blue - bearing the "seagull" logo on the backs of the cards. The velvet has faded a bit, but the cards are beautiful and in marvelous condition - 2 jokers to each deck.

16389 Alcoa Line (unknown) 1959   $49.99

A great double deck of playing cards from Alcoa. These cards are contained in a lidded box with a red velvet covering, and not in the more commonly seen slide box. The cards themselves are in fine condition, and do not appear to have been played with. There are two Jokers per deck. Sample cards appear on the bottom of the box. One deck is bright red, and the other is deep blue - both feature the line's seagull and funnel crest prominently, at center. Very nice!

15433 Alcoa Line various 1951   $19.99

A very nice brochure from Alcoa, advertising Caribbean cruises in 1951. This is a six panel fold-out, which opens vertically as well, measuring 21½" x 17". Quite a number of black & white photos are included - many of the interiors of the line's vessels. The cover art is great - typical 50's! Excellent condition.

A great brochure and related ephemera advertising specialty cruises on board Alco's ore ships. American Export Lines

8380 American Export Lines Constitution 1958   $5.00

Notice of the Rotarians' meeting on board Constitution, 10/21/58. The light grey card & onionskin envelope both bear the line logo. A letter opener was used along the top edge of the envelope, but still excellent!

13391 American Export Lines Exochorda 1951   $18.00

A collection of United Press news bulletins issued at sea, shore excursion notices and daily announcement from a crossing aboard SS Exochorda in May and June of 1951. What these printed items lack in "artistry" they make up for in historical interest! The Korean War; a British coal mine disaster; the death of Fanny Brice; Sinatra's request for divorce from Nancy; Israel's border dispute with Syria; Senator Estes Kefauver rails against a multitude of government ills; Truman cruises on board the presidential yacht, the USS Williamsburg; King George's health deteriorates; Iran plans to nationalize the British-controlled oil industry; Ezzard Charles keeps his heavyweight crown in Chicago, Lee Wallard wins the 35th 500 in Indianapolis; CN reports its fifth train wreck in seven days; Communists here, there, and everywhere; and much, much more! It seems like it was the perfect time to be out at sea!

The sailing ship logo in light blue-grey on the cover of this Cabin Class passenger list, eastbound, 7/22/58. Several notation regarding fellow passengers. Just a tiny bit of soiling on the cover.

8392 American Export Lines Independence 1958   $17.99

This Cabin Class passenger list from her eastbound voyage of 7/22/58 is in great condition - just a tiny bump to the lower corner of the back cover. Very nice, with the sailing ship logo in dark blue-grey.

8378 American Export Lines (unknown) 1958   $2.99

These small luggage stickers, 5" x 3", were mailed to the traveler prior to the voyage in an envelope with tickets and boarding information. The left edge is perforated, indicating they were probably produced in "booklet" form for the travel agent.

American President Lines

Also included are three travel booklets, each with vital information for travelers to Hawaii, Japan, and Hong Kong. These are delightfully written and illustrated. 13502 American President Lines President Cleveland 1957   $40.00

One cannot help but be impressed by this magnificent passenger list from the President Cleveland, issued for voyage number 72, sailing from Hong Kong on April 8, 1957. Only the image can adequately describe this trompe l'oeil piece, formed and printed to represent a bound book with gilt-edged pages. In addition to the pages bound within, others have been added to list passengers boarding at ports along the route. This is a truly delightful piece, made even more so by its condition, which is excellent!

13500 American President Lines President Cleveland 1957   $40.00

In the company of a great number of menus and ephemera from the Cleveland came this wonderful deck plan and promotional brochure, originally issued in 1955, for the ship and her sister, the President Wilson. Extremely colorful, and illustrated with photos of the ships' interiors as well as destinations. The piece opens to 27" x 31½". Extremely nice condition, showing some light wear at the folds, but all seams are intact with no separation. Very nice!

The cards have been used, but have remained flat and are very clean, with a pair of Jokers accompanying each deck. Very nice!

10910  American President Lines (unknown) 1965   $20.00

A great, terry cloth bath towel, raised, block lettering across its full length reading: "American President Lines." This is nicely done, but unfortunately camera-shy! Showing wear from heavy use, still very good condition and certainly use-able. A neat item!

15435 American President Lines various 1951   $12.99

An interesting little brochure, advertising transatlantic sailings on the "President" liners. One normally associates APL with Pacific crossings, so it is interesting to see them attempt to exploit the "Sunny, Southern Route" catch phrase used by Italia and American Export, touting relaxing, ten-day trips to New York via the Mediterranean. This four panel fold-out includes six black & white shipboard photos. A neat piece in excellent condition.

16664 American President Lines various 1960   $21.99

A very nice example of APL's sailings schedule, issued in August of 1960. This piece is pristine, and the cover graphics are great. Opens to 20" in width.

American Scantic Line

15436 American Scantic Line various 1936   $16.99

An unusual piece of promotional material from the American Scantic Line, advertising the "American Route" to northern Europe. 12 pages plus covers, the booklet is full of passenger information regarding ports of call and amenities of the line's four "Scan" steamers. In addition to the booklet, there are two sheets detailing rates. The booklet exhibits a vertical fold, and had likely been mailed in a standard size envelope to the prospective traveler. Otherwise, the condition is excellent. Neat ephemera from a line we see little from.

Atlantic Transport Line

8943 Atlantic Transport Line Minnekahda 1929   $22.00

A wonderful list from the Minnekahda's eastbound crossing of 8/24/29. This list contains the line's sailing schedule, as well as the sailings for Red Star, White Star, and Panama Pacific. Another page lists the vessels of each line's fleet. A very nice item.

Canadian Pacific

15716 Canadian Pacific Duchess of Atholl 1936   $8.99

A six-panel, illustrated brochure promoting July & August 9 day cruises aboard the Duchess in 1936. This particular piece was saved as a souvenir from the voyage which departed New York on 1 August of that year. Illustrated with monochrome photos in sepia tone, a number of on-board photos appear, in addition to rates, fares, and schedules. The piece shows light soiling and wrinkling, and was apparently folded in half at one time. Still in very good condition - just appearing as if it may have made the trip in someone's breast pocket!

15715 Canadian Pacific Duchess of Atholl 1936   $11.99

A nice program from the Duchess, sailing from New York on 1 August, 1936. Printed on card, and featuring the ship's portrait, the program features the entertainment listings for every night of the 11 day round-trip voyage to Quebec and Montreal. Showing a light corner crease lower right, and some pale age toning - still a nice example and an interesting look at the "life of leisure" on board CPR vessels in the 1930's.

8991 Canadian Pacific Duchess of York 1931   $8.00

A luggage sticker, unused, and acquired prior to a 1931 crossing on the Duchess. The letter "H" appears in a circle, along with the line name.

8993 Canadian Pacific Duchess of York 1931   $16.00

This is a great piece of ephemera - a US landing card bearing the US Immigration Inspector's date stamp 8/22/31, and stating: "Examined and found admissible...". We shudder to think of the alternative finding! Welcome to the USA!

8946 Canadian Pacific Duchess of York 1933   $12.00

Her eastbound voyage, 8/29/33. The piece contains adverts for the Empress of Britain's World Cruise, and includes 3 photos of the vessel. A track chart in the centerfold. A bit of rust to the two staples - otherwise very good.

13252 Canadian Pacific Empress of Canada 1938   $18.00

An interesting group of ephemera from a 1938 transpacific voyage, beginning in Vancouver on board the Empress of Canada. Included are a letter detailing passage; a confirmation of accommodation on the Empress, as well as on the SS Talma of British India Steam Navigation Co., and a KPM vessel; a passenger declaration presented upon entry into Japan; and a first class boarding card from the Empress. Acquired with this ephemera was a large accommodation plan from the Empress, which we are offering separately. A neat grouping of memorabilia!

12522 Canadian Pacific Empress of Canada 1961   $100.00

A magnificent, double deck of portrait-backed cards from the Empress of Canada. Undoubtedly a First Class item, the cards are housed in a padded box decorated in red and metallic gold. The lining is metallic gold as well, with a satin ribbon to help the cards out of their holder. The top of the box features two embossed foil plates with the line name and house flag. Two sample cards have been attached to the bottom of the box. Both decks complete with two Jokers, the ship's portrait appears on the card backs - one bordered in red, the other in dark blue. The cards have been used, showing slight curling and edge wear, but we still consider them in excellent condition. An exceptional memento.

2860 Canadian Pacific Empress of Canada 1964   $10.00

An olive green cover offsets the CPR flag on this folded race card. This is in booklet form, with the race pages stapled inside. An imperceptible water stain has not marred the appearance or crispness of this item.

9514 Canadian Pacific (unknown) 1952   $12.00

A great baggage tag from CPR. Unused, and in excellent condition. The piece is printed in red & gold, with the line's "beaver & shield" logo in black on reverse.

16221 Canadian Pacific various 1925   $14.99

One way and round trip fares for Tourist Third Cabin travelers on the liners of the Canadian Pacific. This is a six panel accordion fold rate schedule, which measures 25" across when fully opened. Some light soiling, otherwise very nice. Not the slickly produced and graphically rich material issued for the upper classes, but still a nice example - especially since Third Class ephemera is difficult to locate.

Chandris Lines

12975 Chandris Lines (unknown) 1968   $9.00

A large luggage label from Chandris. This is a "wanted - not wanted" label, with a perforated strip at top and bottom, so one might indicate whether or not the item of baggage was needed in the passenger's stateroom, or could be consigned to the hold for the duration of the voyage. Unused, with adhesive intact.
