(Click on the name of each ship for an image)

Messageries Maritimes

10522 Messageries Maritimes Lotus 1923   $17.99

The "Fumoir", or Smoking Room aboard the Lotus. We turn up little from Messageries Maritimes, and even less from the Lotus, which makes this interior rather unusual. Written in French, but apparently never posted. Very minor corner wear only.

Monticello Steam Ship Co.

13358 Monticello Steam Ship Co. Calistoga 1924   $6.99

An unused card from the Monticello Steam Ship Company, featuring their steamer, Calistoga. This vessel offered ferry service between San Francisco and Vallejo. Very good condition, the card shows some light foxing on the verso, and minor corner wear. A nice, bow-view image.

Moore-McCormack Lines

15043 Moore-McCormack Lines Brasil/Uruguay/ Argentina 1950   $9.99

The famous Hoertz portrait of one of the Mooremack trio, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. This portrait was painted before WWII. However, the ship's funnel colors were retouched later, to reflect Mooremack's postwar colors. This example is not postally used, but shows just a bit of corner wear.

N.G.I.

10540 N.G.I. Augustus 1928   $14.00

A truly beautiful full-color rendering of Augustus' First Class Grill Room. Minimal corner damage to this unused card. Very nice!

15589 N.G.I. Augustus 1928   $16.99

One of an incredible set of interior renderings issued as postcards for the Augustus. This colorful illustration pictures the Reading Room, decorated with rich. Purple velvet against mahogany woodwork. This example is unused, but shows some minor corner wear. The colors are beautiful!

N.Y.K. Line

15937 N.Y.K. Line Taiyo Maru 1930   $37.99

An example of the very collectible Art Deco postcards issued by the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, or N.Y.K. Line. This card features colorful chrysanthemums on a blue and white checkerboard background. The ship's portrait is inset with a metallic gold drop-shadow. Unused and in excellent condition, showing only extremely faint toning on the reverse edges.

National Hellenic American Line

15951 National Hellenic American Line Queen Frederica 1954   $12.99

A gorgeous color portrait of the Queen Frederica at sea. This unused card is in exceptionally fine condition, exhibiting only a very tiny and fine corner crease at lower left - almost invisible, and detectable only on the reverse. The card includes the Greek equivalent of her name, adding that she is the "ex Atlantic." In fact, it is quite likely this portrait, painted by Astor, was originally executed for the vessel's Home Lines service - it being a relatively simple matter to alter her funnel markings for a re-print. Very nice!

Nederland Line

10545 Nederland Line Oranje 1948   $11.99

A very interesting real photo of Oranje at Amsterdam. The ship is surrounded by small craft, and seems to be holding up the passage of a car ferry. Unused and near mint.

North German Lloyd

10547 North German Lloyd Berlin 1925   $14.00

This is a great interior from Berlin, showing one of her 3rd Class bathrooms. Of interest are the carpet and the towels, which prominently display the line name and logo. German issue by the Ocean Comfort Company of Bremen.

10555 North German Lloyd Berlin 1925   $14.00

The 3rd Class dining room aboard Berlin on this unused card from the Ocean Comfort Company of Bremen. An excellent black & white image, showing the tables fully set. Excellent condition.

10548 North German Lloyd Berlin 1925   $14.00

Berlin's 3rd Class Ladies' Lounge. Judging by the books on the tables, it was intended that the ladies traveling would spend a good many hours reading! A very nice, unused card from the Ocean Comfort Company of Bremen.

10550 North German Lloyd Berlin 1935   $34.99

Another wonderful on-board photo card. Three happy travelers, each wearing a gala night ribbon as a headband. This vertical format card is unused and in excellent condition. Truly a charming image of life at sea in the 1930's!

15561 North German Lloyd Bremen 1929   $27.99

A rare and early photo postcard, taken on board the Bremen during one of her earliest crossings. Dated on the reverse: July 31st, 1929, which indicates this was likely her second westbound crossing. The photo is charming!

16627 North German Lloyd Bremen 1962   $14.99

An excellent card from the Bremen, posted at sea on October 3, 1962 and bearing a "Deutsche Schiffpost" cancel. A tiny corner crease upper left and an even tinier bump at lower left, otherwise a beautiful example featuring an exceptional color photograph of the vessel.

10564 North German Lloyd Columbus 1924   $11.99

A wonderful on-board photo card of a contented passenger next to a life ring, on the boat deck. There is some loss of finish to the upper portion of this card, but unused, it is still quite nice.

10567 North German Lloyd Columbus 1933   $19.99

This is a great card from Columbus, featuring a wonderful color portrait of the ship. Continental size, and bearing the vessel's postmark of 8 September, 1933. The writer is concerned with passing customs inspection and may have been returning with a surplus of goods, as he indicates he "had to buy an additional satchel". Very nice condition, showing just a slight bit of soil.

16252 North German Lloyd Europa 1968   $8.99

A very nice photo of Europa at anchor during a cruise. This card is unused, and was acquired with ephemera from a 1968 voyage. Pale foxing on the reverse, but excellent otherwise. What may appear to be chipping or a scratch at the extreme lower right is actually a wave crest at the edge of the photograph.

16513 North German Lloyd Konigin Luise 1914   $11.99

An interesting card from the Konigin Luise of the North German Lloyd. This card was posted at Plymouth on 19 June, 1914. The cancel was quite forceful, and has left a visible impression opposite. A small corner crease lower left, and minor corner wear lower right. Some light soiling on the reverse - still a nice example of this uncommon card.

10584 North German Lloyd Munchen 1923   $59.99

A wonderful six- postcard set of black & white images, the first being a portrait of the ship at sea, the second is the first class promenade, and the remaining four are various interiors - all near mint! A rare set.

10590 North German Lloyd Sierra Ventana 1923   $19.99

Apparently the five chaperones of this cruise decided to have a photo taken with one of the ship's officers. This is a wonderful real souvenir photo taken on deck. Very nice condition and unused.

10591 North German Lloyd Sierra Ventana 1923   $19.99

One of the ship's officers aboard Sierra Ventana, with lifeboat No. 15 to the left. The NGL logo clearly appears embroidered on the officer's sleeve, and on his cap. A great image, the card is unused and shows only a slight bit of curling.

10594 North German Lloyd Stuttgart 1929   $11.99

A great photo of the Stuttgart's 1st Class Restaurant. German "Seepost" cancel, 1929. Excellent condition.

Norwegian America Line

13044 Norwegian America Line Bergensfjord 1962   $8.99

A lovely portrait by Astor of the Bergensfjord at sea. 1962 was likely the date of issue for this example, though we believe the original illustration was done in 1954. This unused example is near-mint.

10597 Norwegian America Line Sagafjord 1965   $4.99

A beautiful color photo of Sagafjord at anchor. This unused card is slightly oversize. Excellent condition.

P & O

13002 P & O Arcadia 1958   $7.99

The Arcadia at Vancouver in this color photo card. A Japanese cargo vessel loading timber appears in the foreground. Unused with just a hint of corner wear.

16522 P & O Mongolia 1904   $12.99

A dramatic image of Mongolia battling heavy seas on this mailing card for the P & O. Not postally used. Undivided back, exhibiting only a faint stain at lower right, and a tiny bump to the lower left corner. A neat image!

16512 P & O Ranpura 1925   $16.99

A very nice, as well as an unusual postcard from P & O. The card features a wonderful portrait of the Ranpura. The card is not postally used, and is in very nice condition, with only a very tiny bump to the lower left corner. Quite clean both front and back.

Panama Pacific Line

10619 Panama Pacific Line Pennsylvania 1929   $11.99

A dramatic illustration of Pennsylvania at sea on this unused card. A nice rendering, unfortunately un-credited. Excellent with very good corners.

Puget Sound Navigation Co.

11302 Puget Sound Navigation Co. Kalakala 1935   $29.99

An extremely wonderful and rare real photo card titled: "The Old and the New". A delightful image of one of the small ferries at Bremerton, Washington passing the legendary Kalakala. Although Kalakala appears to be under way, she apparently has yet to receive her final coat of paint. A very sharp image, (the scan does not do it justice); magnification reveals the ships name quite clearly emblazoned on her port bridge wing. A truly wonderful, unused card featuring this historic vessel.

12563 Puget Sound Navigation Co. Kalakala 1935   $11.99

A great, unused linen card featuring a port broadside view of Kalakala, plying her route between Bremerton and Seattle. Published by C.P. Johnston Co. of Seattle. Excellent condition.

ON HOLD

11947 Puget Sound Navigation Co. Kalakala 1936   $15.99

A great real photo of Kalakala on her route from Seattle to Bremerton. Labeled on the negative: 'Black Ball Motor Ferry "Kalakala", World's First Streamlined Ferry'. Unused and in very nice condition. A neat image.

Red Star Line

16506 Red Star Line Belgenland 1927   $14.99

A dramatic portrait of the Belgenland by Charles Dixon on this vertical format card from the Red Star Line. Not postally used and quite clean, exhibiting only some light corner wear.

16504 Red Star Line Finland 1905   $12.99

Another Henri Cassiers illustration - this on a postcard from the Finland, dated July 23, 1905. The date appears printed on the face, indicating that the card likely topped a menu at one time. Not postally used, but exhibiting light staining and a diagonal crease at lower left.

10631 Red Star Line Pennland 1931   $17.99

If this card was not illustrated by Chas. Dixon, I will give it away! Vertical format and masterfully done - a tug in the foreground. 7/26/31 with a Cherbourg cancellation. Great corners.

16502 Red Star Line (unknown) 1906   $17.99

Another lovely postcard from Red Star. This illustration once topped a menu, but was intended to be removed and posted. This example was apparently saved as a souvenir and was never written on or mailed. Exhibiting some toning along the upper edge, otherwise very good condition.

16500 Red Star Line (unknown) 1906   $18.99

A Red Star Line postcard from a series issued by the line, each featuring a miniature image of a poster by Henri Cassiers. This example was posted on 28 August, 1906. Many of these were originally attached to a menu card, and evidence of the separation is often visible along the bottom edge. Quite clean, and exhibiting only some roughness along the top edge, and a slight bump to the upper left corner.

16503 Red Star Line (unknown) 1908   $12.99

A postcard from the Red Star Line with a Cassiers illustration featuring three fisherman in a small row boat and a Red Star Line steamer passing in the background. Not postally used, but exhibiting a diagonal crease at lower right.

16501 Red Star Line Vaderland 1904   $21.99

A beautiful postcard featuring a Cassiers illustration, saved from a voyage on board the Vaderland, and dated 21 August, 1904. This card once topped a menu, as is evidenced by the slightly uneven cut along the bottom edge. It was never postally used, and has remained in very nice condition, with minimal toning or soiling. A very collectible card from a popular series.

16505 Red Star Line Westernland 1930   $11.99

A beautiful postcard featuring a Cassiers illustration, saved from a voyage on board the Vaderland, and dated 21 August, 1904. This card once topped a menu, as is evidenced by the slightly uneven cut along the bottom edge. It was never postally used, and has remained in very nice condition, with minimal toning or soiling. A very collectible card from a popular series.

Royal Mail Steam Packet Co.

10636 Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. Araguaya 1920   $27.99

This is a marvelous card from Araguaya. A lovely illustration by Charles Dixon, printed in blue monochrome in a vertical format. Quite dramatic and unusual. The reverse bears not only the line's cinched belt and crown logo, but a good sized advert in a box at the left border. Truly a wonderful and rare example - unused.

10637 Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. Arcadian 1923   $14.00

A great photo of Arcadian, the former Asturias in her post-war guise. The image has a light sepia tone and is printed on mat stock. The line's belted logo appears on reverse, in addition to an advert in the left border describing the various routes available on R.M.S.P.. A very tiny bump to the upper left corner prevents us from listing this unused card as mint.

Royal Navy

10641 Royal Navy (unknown) 1919   $29.99

A very interesting Tuck's card which came to us amongst a collection of woven silk "Hands Across The Sea" cards. This vertical format card features a large embroidered panel with a crown, an anchor, and two crossed flags which we believe are the Blue Peter and the White Ensign of the Royal Navy. There is a date penciled on reverse: 10/2/19. There is also a brief note in pen: "To Agnes from Uncle Angus - XXXXX", but the card was not posted. The condition is excellent, with soiling apparent only on the reverse. The border is beautifully embossed with oak leaves, berries, and ribbons. Quite a nice piece!
