Hamburg-America Line

10384 Hamburg-America Line Deutschland 1900   $24.00

Unused card, undivided back, very good corners. A color rendering of the 'Grillroom'. A wonderful interior illustration in great condition.

14918 Hamburg-America Line Orinoco 1930   $16.99

A very nice, real photo card of the Orinoco, docked at Curacao. Not postally used, and showing some wear along the bottom edge. There is some toning at left, but this is exaggerated by the scan. The image itself is wonderfully sharp, and with the aid of a magnifying glass, one can pick out some great detail! An uncommon card.

10848 Hamburg-America Line (unknown) 1910   $11.99

We are always delighted with these cards, seemingly a tradition HAPAG maintained over the years, as several variations can be found. "Weckruf an Bord", or "Morning Call", a tune likely played on board the line's vessels as an invitation to breakfast. Though later examples feature photographic images, the bugler on this example is an artist's rendering. The line flag appears in color on the reverse, accompanied by the common "An Bord d.D......." which allowed the traveler to indicate the vessel on which he or she was sailing. Light edge wear, unused.

Hamburg-Atlantic Line

10407 Hamburg-Atlantic Line Hanseatic 1960   $27.00

This is a great oversize real photo card from Hanseatic, which features a composite of photos; some images of the ship, and others of various locations - presumably taken at ports of call during one of her Caribbean cruises. This "Giant" postcard measures 8¼" x 5¾", and is in excellent condition, with only some slight curling. We had not seen a similar example.

Holland-America Line

10425 Holland-America Line Nieuw Amsterdam 1956   $7.99

This is one of my favorite illustrations - definitely tinted and based on a real photo. Starboard bow 3/4 view, black hull. 3/2/56 with a canal zone cancellation.

13360 Holland-America Line Nieuw Amsterdam 1957   $7.99

The lovely Nieuw Amsterdam at sea on this color photo card from Holland-America. Unused, but showing some corner wear. A colorful view of one of the most attractive and best-loved passenger liners ever put to sea.

11518 Holland-America Line Nieuw Amsterdam 1961   $8.99

A truly mint example of this wonderful overhead view of the ship - this card had been tucked into a brochure from a 1961 cruise, and has survived in pristine condition. An excellent example.

12171 Holland-America Line Nieuw Amsterdam 1973   $9.99

Likely the last postcard issued for her, this is a beautiful color photo of the ship at anchor during a cruise. Her exquisite lines and proportions are fully evident. One of the most popular vessels of all time. This example is unused, and exhibits only some light foxing on the reverse - a characteristic seemingly typical of many Holland-America Line postcards of the period, and undoubtedly due to the composition of the card stock used.

10432 Holland-America Line Rotterdam 1908   $11.99

This is an interesting card from Rotterdam, postmarked at Paris' Grand Hotel 0n 6 October, 1908. An early card from her, as her maiden voyage was in June of the same year. The inset illustration of the vessel is wonderful, though the white areas of the card do show some soiling - understandable after 90 years!

11057 Holland-America Line Rotterdam 1970   $5.99

Postmarked at Hamilton, Bermuda on 5 July, 1970. A very light cancel appears on the face, just above the ship's bridge. It is not often we notice the stamp, but the one applied to this card is exceptional - a rendering of a Bermudan cottage in gold and mauve, and a lovely portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

10438 Holland-America Line Ryndam 1955   $4.99

The same photo card with both Paquebot & Southampton cancellations. 9/30/55. Very good corners on this one.

15606 Holland-America Line Statendam 1929   $24.99

A magnificent and near-pristine example of this artist's rendering of the Statendam. The ship was much delayed in her construction, and it is quite likely this portrait was painted some time prior to her 1929 maiden voyage. Not postally used. Exhibiting exceptional color, and excellent corners. Very nice!

11547 Holland-America Line Statendam 1956   $6.99

An unused card from Statendam - quite likely an early issue, as the image gives the appearance of an artist's impression of the finished vessel, and the tonnage listed on reverse is labeled: "appr.". Light scrape along the upper edge, otherwise very good.

13017 Holland-America Line (unknown) 1908   $11.99

A beautiful vertical format card featuring a photo of the First Class Dining Saloon, likely on board either Rotterdam or Nieuw Amsterdam. This line-issued card is unused, and in near-mint condition.

12980 Holland-America Line Veendam 1947   $11.99

A beautiful color tinted card from Veendam. This unused example is near-pristine. We found this with a number of others from the ship, however each had an identical black ink spot above the ship - obviously a flaw in the printing process - this was the only perfect example!

Isle of Man Steam Packet Co.

12205 Isle of Man Steam Packet Co. King Orry 1918   $17.99

A wonderful illustration of the King Orry (III) wearing her dazzle paint and in line at the surrender of the German fleet on 22 November, 1918. In consideration of her war service, and as the only representative of the British Mercantile Marine present, Admiral Beatty gave her the place of honor - Middle of the center line. The event is described on the reverse of this unused card, showing some corner and edge wear. An historic illustration of this famous Isle of Man steamer, and an unusual card.

12206 Isle of Man Steam Packet Co. King Orry 1950   $5.99

A photo image of the fourth Isle of Man vessel to bear the name King Orry. This ship survived from 1946 until her demise in 1975. Unused, showing some corner and edge wear.

Italian Line

10472 Italian Line Amerigo Vespucci 1950   $9.99

An interesting continental size card from this combination liner. A sepia toned 'retouched' photo, illustrating the ship port near broadside at sea. Unused and in excellent condition. An unusual Italia card.

10478 Italian Line Cristoforo Colombo 1957   $7.99

A nice port side image of the Colombo at sea, still attired in her original black hull paint with white pin stripe. This card is slightly undersized, yet not quite as small as the majority of Italia cards issued at the time. A slight nick at top and just beneath her bow prevents this unused example from being called mint.

11967 Italian Line Leonardo da Vinci 1960   $9.99

A dramatic and somewhat typically exaggerated portrait of the Da Vinci at sea on this unused, line-issued card. A bit of wear along the lower edge, and the beginnings of a crease upper right, but a card that is not too often seen.

10483 Italian Line Leonardo da Vinci 1962   $8.99

Typical of the Italian Line, this card is slightly undersize at 3¼" x 5½". A beautiful full color port broadside view of the ship with her black hull coloring. Printed on very light stock, this card is near mint and unused.

10487 Italian Line Leonardo da Vinci 1966   $6.99

Another "small format" card. Full color photo of the 'Da Vinci' with her black hull, postmarked 8/15/66. Some minor defects and the stamp, if there was one, has vanished without a trace!

15609 Italian Line Michelangelo 1965   $12.99

A very nice portrait of the Michelangelo on this unused card from Italia. Typical of this series, the card is slightly undersized. Not postally used, and showing a faint hint of corner wear lower right. Still excellent!

10491 Italian Line n/a 1938   $14.00

This is a wonderful card depicting the "Stazione Marittima" at Genoa. At the extreme right appear the Conte di Savoia and Roma or Augustus. The building in the immediate foreground at right has "ITALIA" in large letters over the entrance, and I would guess this was the Italian Line's headquarters or main passenger terminal. Printed in Italy. Unused.

Lauro Lines

10497 Lauro Lines Angelina Lauro 1966   $9.99

A wonderful stern 3/4 view of the ex-Oranje, passing beneath what we believe is the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It's a pity the career of this lovely ship ended in flames - her refit for Lauro produced a truly beautiful vessel. Unused and excellent.

Lloyd Sabaudo

16520 Lloyd Sabaudo Conte Biancamano 1925   $12.99

A bit of a nibble to the lower left corner of the Lloyd Sabaudo postcard, but hard to pass up this great photographic image of the Conte Biancamano! This card is unused, and exhibits light soiling and a bump to the upper left corner in addition to the flaw previously mentioned. A very nice early portrait of the ship wearing her original funnel colors.

10506 Lloyd Sabaudo Conte Rosso 1922   $15.99

This on-board photo of two female passengers is titled: "The Globe Trotter & The Flapper", at least that is what is indicated by the handwritten notation on reverse. The names of these two lovely ladies are also included. The card was never posted, and was kept as a souvenir. Just a bit of corner wear to the lower corners.

Lloyd Triestino

10507 Lloyd Triestino Ausonia 1934   $21.99

A wonderful full color rendering of Ausonia's smoking room on bar. This card is one of several interiors from Ausonia recently acquired - all near mint and masterfully illustrated. Deep, rich color. Unused.

10508 Lloyd Triestino Ausonia 1934   $21.99

Ausonia's library and writing room, a great color rendering of this wonderful space. A wide right hand border on this unused card. Excellent condition.

10509 Lloyd Triestino Ausonia 1934   $21.99

A portion of Ausonia's restaurant - a near-photographic rendering in wonderful colors that a camera would most likely not be able to capture. Unused, but a small nick to the lower left corner. Otherwise excellent and very clean.

10510 Lloyd Triestino Ausonia 1934   $21.99

Ausonia's dining saloon - beautiful window and wall treatments, a lovely vaulted ceiling with a stained glass skylight, dramatically juxtaposed with a black & white diagonal checkerboard floor. Unquestionably Italian! Unused, excellent condition.

10511 Lloyd Triestino Ausonia 1934   $21.99

A first class private dining room. The talent of this illustrator is evident in the wonderful treatment of the mirrored walls. Ausonia is certainly a ship I would have loved to sail upon! Unused, small nicks to the left corners, still excellent.

10513 Lloyd Triestino Esperia 1934   $21.99

Esperia's bar and card room. This is a wonderful full color rendering of this simply yet beautifully decorated space. Wonderful Oriental rugs on a diamond parquet floor. Unused and in excellent condition.

London, Midland & Scottish Railway

11356 London, Midland & Scottish Railway Duke of Argyll 1944   $7.99

The first of 5 cards recently acquired from the collection of Pfc Jack Vaughn of North Little Rock, appropriately nicknamed "Arky". Apparently overseas during W.W. II, each card bears the Army Examiner's stamp and an A.P.O. postmark. Written to his mother or father with instructions to save the cards for his collection. A black and white real photo, this example is postmarked 27 June, 1944. A great memento!

11357 London, Midland & Scottish Railway Duke of Lancaster 1944   $7.99

Another card sent home during the war by Pfc. Jack Vaughn for his collection. A black and white real photo of the L.M.S. Railway's Duke of Lancaster. Postmarked June 27, 1944, and passed by the Army Examiner. Very good condition.

11359 London, Midland & Scottish Railway Duke of Rothesay 1944   $7.99

Another steamer in the Belfast and Heysham service for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway. The only example in this group which does not bear the Army Examiner's stamp. Postmarked June 20, 1944. A crease upper left, and a small, blue smudge, otherwise very good.

11358 London, Midland & Scottish Railway Duke of York 1944   $7.99

Black and white real photo, though with a bit of a sepia tone, of the Duke of York at sea. This steamer operated in the Belfast and Heysham service of the L.M.S.. Passed by the Army Examiner, and postmarked 21 June, 1944; from Pfc. Jack Vaughn to his mom. A neat and unusual card and undoubtedly, along with its companions, with quite a few stories to tell!
