Cunard

16532 Cunard Aquitania 1922   $24.99

A magnificent real photo image of the Aquitania in sepia tone. This example, published by C. R. Hoffmann of Southampton, is in excellent condition. Not postally used. Wonderful!

16400 Cunard Ascania 1953   $9.99

A beautiful portrait of Ascania passing the Bar light vessel. This card was postmarked at Greenock on 16 July, 1953. Minor corner wear, otherwise excellent condition.

16529 Cunard Berengaria 1923   $18.99

A fantastic real photo image of the Berengaria on this unused example. Condition is excellent. Feeling the descriptive text in the lower margin inadequate, someone has handwritten the vessel's tonnage at lower right. There are some pale marks on the reverse that seem to indicate the card might have been pasted into a scrap book at one time, but there is no physical damage to the card itself.

10150 Cunard Britannic 1950   $7.99

Another full-color version of the "dark brown" card. Port bow view with a border at the bottom. Unused and crisp! B. 1380

11299 Cunard Britannic 1950   $11.99

An unused example of this popular portrait of Britannic, numbered B. 281. Excellent corners. This is an unusual version of this image as it is entirely framed with a white border. More commonly the card appears with a white border at the bottom only.

16533 Cunard Campania 1904   $16.99

An interesting "Hands Across the Sea" postcard featuring an image of Cunard's Campania. Not postally used, and exhibiting only minor corner wear.

12174 Cunard Carinthia 1925   $39.99

A magnificent vertical format card featuring a beautiful portrait of Carinthia in an exotic port. Rendered at dusk, the lights of her promenade decks are just beginning to glow in the waning sunlight. We feel the artwork is another example of the incredible illustrative work of Charles Dixon, however no signature appears. Unused with slight corner rounding and a small chip at lower left in the white border under the "C" of Cunard.

12223 Cunard Carinthia 1925   $39.99

A very nice vertical format card featuring an illustration of the ship by Odin Rosenvinge. Though quite attractive in sepia tones, it's somewhat of a pity it was not printed in color! A check of dates; (the card bears a New York Paquebot postmark of 31 August, 1925), indicates that the card was posted at the completion of the ship's maiden voyage. Judging from the message, penned near the completion of the crossing, a rather rough initiation it was!

10177 Cunard Caronia 1965   $7.99

Turner's lovely portrait of the "Green Goddess". This example unused and excellent, showing the tiniest of bumps to the lower left corner only.

16531 Cunard Franconia 1932   $11.99

An indistinct postmark on this example, posted at Liverpool, makes it a bit difficult to pinpoint, but the "Civil Defense - Join Now" cancel seems to support a prewar date. A lovely Kenneth Shoesmith portrait of Franconia at sea. Minor corner wear and faint soiling at the edges. This is a very attractive image.

10207 Cunard Mauretania 1907   $27.99

A very unusual and early card for Mauretania. This is a photo of the ship departing the Tyne for her initial trials. The date 9/17/07, and the ship is surrounded by innumerable river craft - most with "TYNE" painted boldly on their upper strakes. Unfortunately the stamp has been removed from this example, along with most of the postmark, so the exact date is unknown. A rare view of the ship wearing her grey primer prior to being painted black.

10211 Cunard Mauretania 1907   $11.99

Cunard Liner "Mauretania" at Liverpool. A nice illustration on this unused example; however the image, lacking cowl ventilators, is definitely Lusitania. A nice example.

10216 Cunard Mauretania 1910   $11.99

A classic illustration of the ship, with text along the lower margin which reads: "Cunard RMS Lusitania and Mauretania". The entire back of this card is covered with handwriting, and the number "4" probably indicates the ship was short of stationery, and postcards had to suffice! Excellent condition.

16511 Cunard Mauretania II 1938   $11.99

An exceptional artist's rendering of Mauretania on this unused card. We have seen this image previously, but this example has an unusual yellow-gold tint that seems to enhance the ship's portrait. Exceptionally sharp corners, and just a faint hint of soiling on the reverse.

16509 Cunard Mauretania II 1939   $11.99

An interesting artist's depiction of the Mauretania in color on this unused postcard, published by J. Salmon. A bit difficult to date, but more than likely an early issue for the ship. The artist credited is one Bernard W. Church. Good corners and no flaws of significance.

11010 Cunard QE2 1978   $3.99

A continental sized color photo card from QE2, showing the ship with her original black painted uptake. The appearance of her penthouse suites dates this card as post her 1978 refit. Unused, but showing a bit of corner wear.

11011 Cunard QE2 1985   $4.99

A very nice aerial view of QE2 on this continental sized photo card. A post-Falklands photo, as it was after the ship's involvement in the conflict that the traditional Cunard colors were applied to her funnel, (though for a time she sailed with a light grey hull). Unused - a lovely photo of the ship!

13023 Cunard QE2 1986   $7.99

A privately produced postcard of the QE2 at Boston. The card is numbered "48", which we assume means this is one of a series. Credited to J.C. Phillips. Not postally used.

10954 Cunard Queen Elizabeth 1953   $7.99

Turner's famous portrait of the Elizabeth at sea on this example bearing a Paquebot cancel, and a New York postmark dated 26 November, 1953. A small bump to the upper left corner, otherwise very good condition.

16624 Cunard Queen Elizabeth 1954   $14.99

The Queen Elizabeth at sea by Turner on this postcard, postmarked at London on 7 July, 1954. The card was written on board during an eastbound crossing, and just prior to arrival at Cherbourg. Excellent corners, especially for an example that has been postally used.

11938 Cunard Queen Elizabeth 1968   $11.99

Always a pleasure to be able to date an image exactly! December 8, 1968, the Elizabeth's arrival at Port Everglades. A pity she could not have remained, or at least been given a more dignified end than the conflagration which eventually consumed her. This full color photo card offers a wonderful overhead view of the ship. Unused with sharp corners - a nice card.

10236 Cunard Queen Mary 1948   $15.99

This is an unusual, unused lettercard, bearing the Turner portrait of the Mary. Postcards bearing this image are rather common, yet letter cards are few and far between. The adhesive has fused along the upper & lower border, rendering this card permanently closed. Excellent condition.

10238 Cunard Queen Mary 1950   $8.99

The Mary at sea on this unused, linen card. This is a "C.T. Art Colortone" card, numbered 94 at upper left, and 6A-H1598 at lower right. Interesting color rendering in excellent condition.

11958 Cunard Queen Mary 1950   $9.99

Turner's magnificent portrait of the Mary at sea. This card may be considered relatively common, but is certainly one of the most desirable, due to the beauty of the image. Extremely fine condition, unused.

10239 Cunard Queen Mary 1950   $6.99

Turner's famous portrait of the grand vessel at sea. The image speaks for itself. Unused and very good condition, with a hint of a thumb crease and a tiny bump to the lower right corner.

16527 Cunard Queen Mary 1950   $8.99

Turner's famous portrait of the Queen on this unused example, exhibiting only some minor corner wear at lower right.

10255 Cunard Tuscania 1927   $13.99

This is an interesting card, advertising the special American Legion sailing, westbound aboard Tuscania from Le Havre to New York on 22 October, 1927. This is apparently the return voyage for a special tour arranged for members of the Second AEF. A small tear bottom center, and a crease upper right. Text on reverse notes offices where those traveling in different classes should apply. An extremely unusual and interesting card.
