Dollar Line

13954 Dollar Line President Lincoln 1927   $300.00

This is a magnificent, Art Deco Eight Day clock by Waltham, which bears a delightful inscription engraved in the reverse of the case: "To Bessie Anthony from E.F. Faulkner and T.T. Overton of the S.S. President Lincoln, Christmas 1927." The design of the clock case is classic Art Deco and executed in sterling silver by the Elgin-American Manufacturing Co., featuring a keyed border with turquoise enamel. The timepiece is fully functional and of exceptional quality and detail - one imagines it was an expensive gift at the time. The inscription seems to indicate that the piece was given to Miss Anthony by members of the ship's crew, however we don't have any Dollar Line passenger lists on hand at the present time to check for their names! Regardless, a magnificent and rare memento. You may note that we have not polished the case - we will leave that pleasure to the new owner!

15624 French Line La Lorraine 1910   $279.99

A truly magnificent example of one of the very collectible souvenir fans presented to female passengers by the Cie. Gle. Transatlantique. Beautiful, Art Nouveau decoration, in rose and orange tones. The image is of a Spanish maiden strumming her guitar, while a white, twin-funneled French Line steamer sails past. Condition of this 90+ year old piece is unbelievable! The color is wonderful, with no signs of fading. The guard sticks and stays are 100% intact. The only indication of age or wear is at the folds on the plain paper which lines the reverse, and this is minimal. Were it not for the fact that this piece was discovered in the company of a 1910 menu, we would have had a difficult time dating it based solely on its condition! This is a wonderful opportunity for you to add this exceptional item to your French Line collection, as fans in this condition are extremely rare and difficult to find!

Machine embroidered in yellow-gold, white, blue, and red on satin. Check the listing page for colors currently in stock.

16215 French Line Normandie 1935   $2,999.00

What a find! This delightful piece is a rare, French-made, tin lithographed wind-up floor toy depicting the Normandie. We believe this item may indeed have been among the many items that CGT sent across on the vessel's maiden voyage as gifts to the boys in a New York orphanage. It is also likely these were available for sale on board. This particular example came to us from a New York estate. A photograph of an identical toy appears in the book: "Normandie - Queen of the Seas," but that is the only example of this rare piece we had seen, until now! The ship measures 13½" in length, and is very nice condition, exhibiting only some light fading to the lithography towards the bow. No major dents, dings, or scratches. Marked: "Fabrication Francaise 614," and (of course) "Normandie" on her bows. The clockwork motor is in working order. Simply as a French-made tin litho toy liner, this item would be considered a rarity. As it indeed was modeled to represent the great Normandie, it is truly a gem!

16365 French Line Normandie 1938   $299.99

An extremely rare "Kraft's Model of S.S, Normandie." This item was a promotional piece, available by mail. It bears a 1938 copyright. Condition is exceptional. Unlike the reproductions of the Kellogg's model produced in recent years for sale on board the Queen Mary at Long Beach, which require scissors be used to cut out individual pieces, the outlines of the pieces on this item are die-cut, and need only be punched out for assembly. The completed model will measure an impressive 28" in length, and it is noted that it will indeed float! Fine condition, with no staining, creases, tears, or excessive toning on either of the two large sheets upon which the model's parts are printed. The colors are bright and true, with no fading apparent. Some of the pieces have begun to separate at the perforated lines, but all are intact, and not a single piece is damaged or missing. These are extraordinarily difficult to find - a very nice example.

12434 French Line (unknown) 1910   $120.00

This is a beautifully illustrated souvenir fan, compliments of the French Line. It is a bit difficult to determine the material from which the ribs and guard sticks were made; perhaps celluloid. It is certainly intended to give the impression of carved bone, accented with metallic gold. The illustration features a shepherdess in the passionate embrace of a young man. At right, a baboon appears, holding a ribbon-draped staff and riding on the back of one of the sheep. The reverse is decorated with floral garlands in monochrome blue. The construction of the fan is atypical, each rib increasing in length as one moves from the outer guard sticks in towards the center. Condition is very good, showing some roughness and wear along the upper edge. A nice memento from CGT.

Furness Bermuda Line

9546 Furness Bermuda Line Queen of Bermuda & Ocean Monarch 1952   $45.00

This is a wonderful memento from the Furness Bermuda Line. "Cruising Along with Al Donahue" - an LP featuring music performed by the ships' orchestras. A photo of both vessels appears on the dust cover, which is in excellent condition. A brief description of the two ships appears on the reverse, along with a space for autographs. An uncommon and neat item!

9547 Furness Bermuda Line Queen of Bermuda & Ocean Monarch 1962   $38.00

Cruising Along with Al Donahue - Your Souvenir Album. This is a nice memento from a cruise on board one of the two Furness liners. We have seen an earlier version, which features a somewhat different repertoire, and has photos of the two vessels on the dust jacket. This is apparently a later release, with a black & white illustration of the two ships - showing the Queen with one funnel. An unusual item!

Gdynia-America Line

12046 Gdynia-America Line Pulaski 1920   $45.00

A delightful handkerchief from the Gdynia America Line, featuring an embroidered portrait of their vessel, the TSS Pulaski. A twin-funneled ship, though undoubtedly just under 10,000 GRT as she does not appear in our reference books. The condition of this example is absolutely wonderful - one of the nicest embroidered silk handkerchiefs we have seen. Always a pleasure to be able to offer something of quality from the GDL.

Grace Line

12932 Grace Line Santa Rosa 1947   $40.00

A gorgeous color photo of the Santa Rosa at Willemstad, Curacao. The ship appears sparkling and brand new in this photo, and has the unmistakable characteristics of a W.F. Gibbs designed ship! The image size is a bit over 8½" x 6", with a wide border. When acquired, the outside measurements of the piece were a full 11" x 14", but the outer edges of the white border had become quite brittle, brown, and curled, so we thought it best to trim it down to 11" x 9" to prevent the cracks from progressing any further inward. A very, very nice image.

12960 Grace Line Santa Rosa 1947   $14.00

An intimate stateroom gathering on board the SS Santa Rosa. This is a delightful photo, snapped by the ship's photographer. At far right is Miss Mary O'Brien, from who's scrapbook we were able to salvage this, and many other priceless images. Next to her is the ship's C.O., "Chris" Christenson. Three of the other women, and the crew members, are unidentified; but we do know the woman wearing the pearls to be Mary's constant traveling companion, Frances Flynn. Doubtless this pair of spunky Irish lasses could have told some tales!

12959 Grace Line Santa Rosa 1947   $14.00

A snap shot taken at the Captain's cocktail party by the ship's photographer during a November 1947 cruise. Seated at right, and looking (much as she does in many of the photos) a bit like Bette Davis, is Miss Frances Flynn, who appears absolutely delighted to be in the company of the ship's incredibly handsome Chief Officer, C.A. "Chris" Christenson. Miss Mary O'Brien is seated at left, with another member of the crew. Sail on, girls!

12958 Grace Line Santa Rosa 1947   $14.00

Miss Mary O'Brien and Miss Frances Flynn in attendance at the Captain's cocktail party. Snapped by the ship's photographer, the two are flanked by members of the ship's staff. The party must have been in full swing, judging by the number of champagne glasses visible, as well as the fact that the hors d'oeuvres have all but vanished!

12957 Grace Line Santa Rosa 1947   $14.00

A wonderful photo, snapped by the ship's photographer, of the Gala Dinner during a 1947 cruise. In the immediate foreground are traveling companions Mary O'Brien (facing away from the camera) and Frances Flynn. Seated with them at the table is the ship's Chief Officer, "Chris" Christenson. Miss O'Brien saved for us an archive of photos and ephemera spanning nearly 20 years of sea voyages. She and her companion we obviously well known, as they are accompanied by high-ranking crew members in many photos.

A collection of twenty one on board photographs taken during a November 1947 voyage on board the Santa Rosa. These photos were labeled and preserved in a scrap book by Miss Mary O'Brien. Mary's traveling companion, Frances Flynn, appears in many of the photos, appearing once with the ship's C.O., C.A. "Chris" Christenson. Each photo is labeled in pencil on reverse. A wonderful archive!

Greek Line

11040 Greek Line New York 1959   $50.00

Too wonderful to separate, here is a group of four black & white photos and a postcard from an August 1959 crossing on board the Greek Line's New York. The traveler was a Miss Constance Eberhart, former Mezzo Soprano with the Chicago Civic Opera. Miss Eberhart is pictured in one of the photos, shaking hands with the ship's captain. The photo of the ship's musicians is complete with the autographs of several of the band members on the verso. Each photo measures 4¾" x 6½". Some scrap book adhesive remains on the reverse of each, with the exception of the band photo, which was hinged into the album so the autographs could be seen. A wonderful archive.

Gdynia-America Line

16100 Gdynia-America Line (unknown) 1960   $32.99

This is a neat, pressed wood souvenir plaque from the Gdynia-America Line, also known as the Polish Ocean Lines. The plaque features a copper medallion at center, with a bas relief image of a bark-rigged sailing vessel. The reverse is stamped with the steamship company's crest in silver, and there is a small metal ring attached for hanging. Items from this line are not often seen, and we were surprised and delighted to spot this delightful little piece!

Hamburg-America Line

2647 Hamburg-America Line Frankfurt 1950   $50.00

9277 Hamburg-America Line Hamburg 1900   $75.00

12438 Hamburg-America Line Hamburg 1938   $60.00

A very nice silver plated souvenir spoon from Hapag's Hamburg. This example is in such excellent condition that it truly belies its age. The spoon was made in Holland. The asymmetrical design led us to believe, upon first glance, that we had found a Holland-America Line piece, and we were quite surprised and delighted to find the name "Hamburg" above the ship's portrait. Very nice!

Hamburg-Atlantic Line

12503 Hamburg-Atlantic Line Hamburg 1971   $16.00

A very interesting Rosenthal pin tray commemorating a sea/air cruise. As such, the map records not only the ship's route of travel, but four legs of the airline flight. This was a seventeen day trip beginning on September 9, 1971. Very nice and one of the more unusual examples of this popular souvenir we have seen.

15989 Hamburg-Atlantic Line Hanseatic 1958   $69.99

A wonderfully executed figural souvenir portrait pin from the Hanseatic. The pin is enameled black, red, and white over silver. The silver waves beneath the vessel add a decidedly Art Deco touch to the image. Only two condition notes: her mainmast (aft) is bent slightly; and though the pin is intact on the reverse, there is no retaining loop - either this was broken or it never had one to begin with. Regardless of these minor flaws, this is a truly wonderful and uncommon item from the former Empress of Scotland.

12014 Hamburg-Atlantic Line Hanseatic 1971   $14.00

The ever-popular Rosenthal pin dish, this from a "Christmas Cruise" aboard Hanseatic, December 20 - January 3, 1971/1972. The lettering of the ship's name appears a little "squiggly" likely due to a crease in the transfer when applied; this is a minor defect, and the piece shows no damage.

12502 Hamburg-Atlantic Line Hanseatic 1973   $12.00

11893 Hapag-Lloyd (unknown) 1960   $200.00

This is a magnificent bone china chocolate pot by Hutschenreuther, which was apparently part of a presentation set from Hapag-Lloyd. The set, unfortunately incomplete, included full-sized dinner plates, salad plates, and bowls, as well as cups and saucers. Each piece features a different vignette of a German landmark and bears the name of a German city. The chocolate pot is a bit of an exception, as the image is that of the excursion vessel "Loreley" on the Rhein. Fully backstamped: "Presented by Hamburg American Line - North German Lloyd". One wonders if this was presented to a passenger or perhaps a valued employee or agent. Regardless, it was quite a gesture, as the items are of impeccable quality and beauty. The condition is near-perfect. A truly wonderful item!

A wonderful bit of advertising memorabilia from HAL. This is a "matchbook" style folder containing lens papers for eyeglasses. 22 sheets are intact, and apparently only one has been removed. Wonderful condition, and interestingly advertising both Holland-America and the Red Star Line. A neat item!

13194 Holland-America Line (unknown) 1956   $120.00

Unique is the only word to describe this wonderful set of six 8" spoons from Holland-America. Manufactured in Holland by the silversmith H. Hooijkaas of Schoonhoven. The spoons are contained in their original box, however the exterior is printed "3 Groc Spoons", so it is likely this is two sets combined. We are at a loss to define "Groc", unless it be a variation of "Grog", which certainly must be stirred! The top of the handle features an extremely nice version of the "Nieuw Amsterdam" portrait, framed at the bottom by a pair of dolphins, with the line's name arched above. We are uncertain of the silver content of the spoons - though each is indeed hallmarked, the marks are so tiny we are unable to make out anything other than the maker's "HH". They are nicely plated at the very least, and as there is no base metal visible anywhere, they could indeed be solid coin silver or even sterling. Very, very unusual, of excellent quality, and in exceptionally fine condition.

15899 Holland-America Line (unknown) 1959   $59.99

At the time we purchased this cup we thought it unremarkable. However, once we got it back home, we realized that it is indeed unusual in that it stands nearly 1½" taller than the cups one usually finds. This is indicative either of the fact that it is an earlier item, or merely a better prize! Beautiful silver plate from Nieuwpoort, decorated with a fine enameled appliqué depicting the Holland-America Line crest. One small scratch on the handle at left, otherwise very nice condition.

12129 Holland-America Line (unknown) 1969   $32.99

This is a lovely, silver plated trophy by Nieuwpoort for the Holland-America Line. Excellent quality and in very nice condition - though possibly used as a flower vase as the interior shows quite a bit of verdigris. The exterior of the piece is near-flawless and displays beautifully.

14717 Holland-America Line (unknown) 1969   $49.99

A lovely, silver plated trophy cup from Holland-America, marked "Nieuwpoort 90" inside the base. This example is in near-perfect condition, featuring the Nieuw Amsterdam logo in silver and enamel. Unfortunately no indication as to the type of contest for which this lovely prize was awarded!

12237 Holland-America Line (unknown) 1970   $5.00

A neat advertising package of lens cleaners from Holland-America, manufactured by Cub Products of New York. Most, if not all of the tissues are intact. This example has a neat "pop-up" feature, as the interlocked tissues pop up one after another as used.

13345 Holland-America Line (unknown) 1980   $8.00

A heavy-footed beer glass from Holland-America. We believe these were indeed used on board, and were not merely souvenir items. Perfect for your pilsner!

13432 Holland-America Line Veendam 1972   $79.99

An extremely nice, rectangular souvenir tray from Veendam (ex Argentina). Brushed aluminum with the ship's image engraved at center. This example is very near mint condition, as it was discovered still in its original plastic sleeve, and the surface has remained without scratches or wear of any kind. It would be difficult to find another in such beautiful condition!

14562 Holland-America Line Veendam 1972   $72.99

A very nice souvenir from the Veendam - a square, brushed aluminum tray with crimped edges and a portrait of the vessel at sea. This example has remained within its original plastic sleeve, and is in near-perfect condition, with no surface scratches. A nice memento from the former Argentina of the Moore-McCormack lines. Beautiful!

15796 Holland-America Line Veendam 1975   $39.99

15065 Holland-America Line Veendam 1979   $39.99

A large, decorated stein from Veendam, produced by Royal Falcon Ironstone of England, and dated February, 1979. A beautiful piece, with gilt rim and hand-applied detailing on the handle. Condition is excellent, though the piece is covered overall with fine crazing. This affects the glaze only, is rather common on these non-vitrified pottery pieces, and does not compromise the integrity of the piece. It is, however, recommended that, when necessary, one should was these items by hand, and not expose them to the extreme heat of a dishwasher!

13150 Holland-America Line Volendam 1978   $32.99

A very nice souvenir from the Volendam, in Royal Falcon Ironstone pottery from England. The cup features a gilt rim (perfect) and a nice transfer image of the ship. Very nice!

16284 Holland-America Line Volendam 1978   $32.99

A small, scallop-edged tray from Royal Falcon Ware for the s/s Volendam. We must begin by stating that this piece exhibits a ¼" chip at the upper left corner on the reverse. Apparently this was not considered serious by the manufacturer, as the item was subsequently glazed, decorated, and a gold line was applied to the edge. The flaw is just visible from the face, though not glaringly apparent, and quality control must have lapsed a bit - still, the item seemingly was considered saleable, and made it into the ship's gift shop, so we cannot help but offer it to you! It remains an attractive memento.

Home Lines

2679 Home Lines Homeric 1956   $60.00

This ornate pocket mirror in its leather case is one of the most beautiful Home Lines souvenirs we have seen. In near mint condition, beveled glass and 4½" to the tip of the handle. Just wonderful!

13240 Home Lines Homeric 1956   $45.00

One of the loveliest Home Lines souvenirs - a small, beveled glass pocket mirror beautifully decorated on the reverse with a combination of acanthus scrolls and geometric patterns. The item appears to be silver plate, but is unmarked, with the exception of the line and ship's names. Many Home Lines items were of Italian manufacture, and we would not be very surprised if that were the case with this piece as well. Condition is excellent, with the mirror itself in perfect, undamaged shape.

16661 Home Lines Homeric 1956   $22.99

A set of five embossed drink coasters in a brown simulated leather case. Each coaster (there may have been six originally) bears a different image of on-board diversions while cruising on a typical Home Lines vessel. The ship's name appears in gold on the case. Condition is excellent.

16644 Home Lines (unknown) 1955   $79.99

An exceptional scarf from the Home Lines. The scarf depicts the Caribbean islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Santo Domingo, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. The scarf is bordered by ship's decking and a series of tiny umbrellas and tables. Woven among a string of jellyfish and other sea creatures are the names of the ships of the line. The colors are beautiful, and the scarf is in truly fine condition with no tears, punctures or pulls. Quite nice!

16647 Home Lines (unknown) 1956   $74.99

This is a beautiful gold-tone compact, enameled in deep blue and bearing the Home Lines crest in gold. The compact opens to reveal a mirror and an inner door concealing the powder compartment and powder puff. The mirror has clouded a bit over time, but the compact appears otherwise unused. Marked "New Light" on the inner lid, with no other markings found.

2525 Home Lines (unknown) 1960

Souvenir fruit plates from the Home Lines. We believe these were not only available as souvenirs, but were probably used in service, as were their counterparts on Swedish American Line ships. All examples offered here have two holes pierced in the foot for hanging, so they were undoubtedly intended as souvenirs. The artist responsible for the images is the maritime illustrator "Astor," who is known for several classic portraits, including that of the Andrea Doria, used in Italian Line advertising. The vessels are rendered in black & white line drawing, which takes on a bit of a "scrimshaw" effect. The plates themselves have scalloped edges, with an embossed, herringbone design - again, identical to SAL examples. Rörstrand produced the SAL plates; however, no maker is indicated on these, and they can appear both with and without the Home Lines logo on reverse. There may have been six different plates in the series, but we have only found five of them to date.

13219 Home Lines (unknown) 1960   $45.00

We are always pleased to be able to acquire examples of these delightful scarves, seemingly a popular Home Lines souvenir. This example is exceptionally cheerful and colorful, featuring "Gay 90's" cavorting on shipboard. Interspersed with the vignettes are images of various period sailing vessels, and a single, rather modern-looking Home Lines liner. The names "MS Italia" and "MS Homeric" appear at opposite corners. The colors are bright and there are no stains - a very nice example!
