Delta Line
| 11175 | Delta Line | Del Sud | 1964 | $10.00 | |
Brazil illustrated on the cover of this dinner menu from Del Sud, dated Wednesday, 7 October, 1964. In addition to the original menu liner, the traveler had saved and inserted the liner from an earlier trip on the same ship; Monday, August 31, and we have left these as found. Though the slick, white stock used for these covers tended to attract soil, this example |

Eastern Steamship Lines
| 16054 | Eastern Steamship Lines | Old Colony | 1908 | $79.99 | |
|
A simple, square shaped butter pat from International Silver. No topmark, but stamped on the reverse: "S.S. Old Colony." This little coastal steamer sailed for the Eastern Steam Ship Lines between 1907 and 1917, at which time she was acquired by the U./S. Navy, and subsequently sent across the Atlantic to the Royal Navy, who were respectful enough to retain her original name, though adding the requisite "H.M.S.." This is a nice example of silver plate, showing some table wear on the reverse, utensil marks, and to small worn areas in the surface plating. Considering the diminutive size of this steamer, this is undoubtedly a rare example. A nice bit of history as well! |

| 13151 | Eastern Steamship Lines | (unknown) | 1920 | $150.00 | |
A large and very heavy platter in the "Ravenna" pattern by Syracuse China. The pattern name and copyright date of 1919 appears on the reverse of this piece. The date code is present, but unfortunately smudged beyond decipherability! Both Barbara Conroy and Dick Luckin illustrate a very similar pattern manufactured for the line by Buffalo China, dubbed "Eastern Green". This platter shows signs of use, but is still in very nice condition. The utensil marks are concentrated in a line along the center of the platter, and gradually diminish as one moves outward. Very nice! |

| 13338 | Eastern Steamship Lines | (unknown) | 1928 | $200.00 | |
A beautiful little silver plated coffee pot from International Silver for Eastern Steamship Lines. This item is in extremely nice condition. The surface shows signs of use as one might expect, but the plating is truly excellent - one of those items which shows just the "right" amount of wear indicative of its on-board function. The company logo has "softened" a bit, but is still clearly visible, and the line name appears on the bottom as well, along with the manufacturer's mark and date code. This is an 8 oz. or single serving pot. This piece has a wonderfully sculpted form and displays beautifully - very nice! |

A neat after-dinner cup from Grindley "Duraline" featuring the "Oceanos" pattern of the Epirotiki Lines. Classic French Line china by Gérard, Dufraisseix & Abbot of Limoges. The circular CGT crest in gold, additionally decorated with a pair of gold lines. Art Deco in form; this design was conceived for the Normandie, and this china pattern appears in countless photos of her "Première Classe" dining room. Its popularity prompted its continued use through the years, and it could be found in the dining rooms of the s/s France in the 1970's - likely the origin of these examples. A truly magnificent service plate from Royal Goedewaagen, commemorating the 10th Around-The-World Cruise of the flagship Rotterdam. We believe these were indeed placed in the ship's dining room, but intended as gifts to be taken home by the passengers. There is more detail on this plate than we could begin to describe. A world map; figures representing "Terra" and "Aqua" (land & sea); and a wonderful portrait of the ship herself. Later cruises would be commemorated with a similar, though smaller, plate - produced in the United States by Sterling China. These are impressive, but do not approach the beauty of the earlier issues from Holland. Rare and wonderful! |
