Admiral Line

13225 Admiral Line H.F.  Alexander 1924   $24.00

A nicely illustrated bit of ephemera from the famous "Hot Foot." Luncheon on board the H.F. Alexander on Sunday, August 3, 1924. This small menu was meant to be folded, sealed, and mailed - which indeed it was. The top and bottom edges appear a bit rough, but this is merely where the sealing "flap" was cut to open the menu after receipt. A rare item from this famous vessel!

13226 Admiral Line H.F.  Alexander 1924   $24.00

A very nice illustration of British Columbia's Parliament Building at Victoria graces the cover of this dinner menu from the famous H.F. Alexander. The menu touts the vessel's famous scheduled run between San Francisco and Seattle of 39 hours noting: "That's Speed!". The edges of the piece appear a bit rough, but this is only due to the fact that the item has been folded, sealed, and mailed as it was intended. A great piece from old "Hot Foot."

Alaska Steamship Company

14452 Alaska Steamship Co. Glacier Queen 1957   $16.99

Josephine Crumrine's portrait of "Rye" appears on this dinner menu from the SS Glacier Queen. The Alaska Steamship Company offered limited fare and a set menu, which (unfortunately) allowed them to issue menus undated - annoying when one is accustomed to finding a printed date! Condition of this example is excellent.

American Export Lines

8374 American Export Lines Independence 1958   $9.99

Luncheon, 7/30/58. Assuredly a wonderful meal, as out of the 30 odd menus saved by these passengers, there were two of this one! St. Peter's, Rome, in a sepia color. A band of toning just visible along the right edge, otherwise very good condition.

A nice b&b or side plate from American Export Lines - manufactured by Mayer, and furnished by Maddock & Miller. We have several examples, some undated, but the majority are stamped either 1958 or 1961. Excellent condition, showing almost no signs of wear. Some examples show a tiny spec or two in the glaze, otherwise very nice. This pattern was reportedly used on board N/S Savannah.

13146 American Export Lines (unknown) 1950   $48.00

We were truly surprised and pleased to discover this flag centerpiece from American Export Lines. Sailing the "Sunlane" route, the flags of Spain, France, and Italy accompany the U.S. flag, and the house flag of the line. The flag poles and base are a very dark blue. Very nice condition and a delightful item!

11832 American Export Lines (unknown) 1960   $74.99

A wonderful example of the elegant china service used on board Independence and Constitution in the 1960's. This deep maroon plate bears the clipper logo at center, and is rimmed with a gold band. Manufactured for the line by Mayer China. We recently acquired four examples, each showing utensil marks, but miraculously the logos have remained near-perfect, and the rims show only light wear. These had obviously been treasured mementos, as each had had a circle of felt carefully applied to the bottom.

8497 American Export Lines (unknown) 1962   $16.99

Simple, yet nice. Soup or cereal bowls, manufactured by Mayer in 1961/1962 for American Export. White with a wide, dark green band on the rim. This china was most likely used aboard Independence or Constitution.

11752 American Export Lines (unknown) 1965   $19.99

A beautiful 8¾" flat rimmed soup bowl from Mayer China for American Export. Excellent condition, showing minimal signs of use - there is a small glaze flaw on the rim which appears as if it might have been the result of contact with another piece while in the kiln. Likely from Independence or Constitution. A nice piece.

American President Lines

13481 American President Lines President Cleveland 1951   $18.00

A beautiful menu from the Cleveland, presented to the table at dinner on March 3, 1951, while the vessel was en route to Kobe, Japan. We have yet to identify the artist who produced this example - one of a magnificent series a very colorful scenes. The initials "A.G." are our only clue. Near-mint condition.

13486 American President Lines President Cleveland 1951   $24.00

En route to Honolulu on board the President Cleveland. This dinner menu was presented on March 11, 1951. Another truly wonderful illustration from this series of menus by an artist identified only as "A.G.." It is difficult to believe that the colors on these menus have retained their brilliance for more than 50 years!

13487 American President Lines President Cleveland 1951   $24.00

A magnificent, large, and colorful dinner menu from the President Cleveland, presented to the table on February 10, 1951, while the vessel was en route to Yokohama. 13480 American President Lines President Cleveland 1951   $18.00

An extremely colorful dinner menu from the President Cleveland. This is one example from a series of menus we recently acquired, all featuring images we had not seen previously. The color and artistry certainly rival the Matson menus of the period. This example, presented to the table while the ship was at Manila, is dated February 24, 1951, but the colors look as fresh as if the item was printed yesterday!

13483 American President Lines President Cleveland 1951   $16.00

Were it not for two very tiny food stains near the upper border, this magnificent menu would be in mint condition. Presented at dinner while the Cleveland was en route to Honolulu on March 7, 1951. The artist is identified only as "A.G.," and we hope one of you might be able to enlighten us as to his or her identity. Certainly a master illustrator!

A truly wonderful menu from the President Cleveland, presented to the table while the vessel was at Yokohama on March 5, 1951. The artist who produced the artwork for this example, one of a series, is identified as Millard Sheets. This example is in excellent condition, showing some extremely minor soiling and evidence of a slight miss-fold. Still a wonderful memento from a transpacific voyage on board the Cleveland!

A very nice menu from the Hoover, this from "International Night". The menu consists of a simply printed grey outer cover, a light blue liner page, and the menu itself, printed on parchment. All three pieces are bound with a doubled blue silk cord. One very small and light stain on the cover, else excellent.

9315 American President Lines (unknown) 1940   $19.99

A truly lovely demitasse spoon from APL. These were manufactured by International Silver Co., and appear to be of an earlier design than any of the other APL flatware we are currently offering. The APL flag does not appear on these small spoons, however the line name is stamped into the reverse of the handle. Wonderful plating. Several available.

12831 American President Lines (unknown) 1955   $47.99

A wonderful piece of silver plate from International Silver for the American President Lines. We are not exactly certain what this piece was designed to hold; whether it was for cream, syrup, honey, or some other condiment. The spout is extremely small - almost nonexistent. As with a majority of items with attached underplates, this piece has survived in excellent condition. The chief reason for this is that the attached plate prevented other items from getting close enough to bump it! There are two minor spots on the base, which are just beginning to show signs of minor pitting, otherwise the plating is very, very nice. We often bemoan the fact that, with the exception of flatware, APL seemed loath to apply their logo to silver plated items, but at least they did backstamp them!

Australind Steamship Co.

9317 Australind Steamship Co. (unknown) 1920   $29.99

A wonderful, large, serving spoon with a line house flag on the handle belonging to the Australind Steamship Company of London. We know nothing about this line or its route, but were delighted to be able to identify the logo which appeared in the 1958 edition of Brown's Flags and Funnels. Excellent condition.

Chandris Lines

15031 Chandris Lines (unknown) 1965   $74.99

A great pair of salt and pepper shakers from Chandris. These items are restaurant grade china with underglaze decoration, and are most certainly from the on board service. Both marked "Made In England," the salt exhibits two, small flakes on the base. We must tell you that salt & pepper are indeed intact within (this may or may not be of Chandris origins)! We had intended to remove the contents; however, the original rubber stoppers, though 100% intact and undamaged, have become hard and brittle, and would likely crumble were they to be tampered with, so we have left them "as is." The topmarked house flag matches perfectly the china of the period. A very unusual example of steamship china!

Clipper Line

2514 Clipper Line (unknown) 1960   $12.00

The ubiquitous Rörstrand butter pat, made in Sweden with the Clipper Line's 'Griffin' logo. These turn up with relative frequency due to the fact that they were presented to passengers as gifts, and can occasionally be found still in their presentation boxes. This is not to say that they were not used in the dining room service, which they most certainly were. We do have an abundance of these available, so please don't hesitate to inquire should you need multiples!

Clyde-Mallory Lines

16255 Clyde-Mallory Lines (unknown) 1940   $32.99

A neat little baker from McNicol, featuring the Clyde-Mallory house flag. The "flow-blue" effect is quite apparent on this example, and the two blue bands have run almost completely out of their borders! Still a neat little piece in very good condition.

Colombian Line

11545 Colombian Line (unknown) 1938   $16.00

An incredible find! We were lucky enough to acquire 48 Irish Damask Linen napkins, each with a wonderful English Ivy pattern surrounding the circular logo and house flag of the Colombian Line. The date ' 1938' is woven into each napkin, and each measures approximately 20" x 20". Amazingly, two sets of one dozen each came to us still bundled and tied with a pair of pale blue ribbons and a small label which reads: "Made in Ireland". Though not a better-known line, the quality is excellent, and should you wish to set your table in style, here is a chance to acquire some fine steamship linen in quantity! Price each, but as always we would love to offer you a special deal for multiple purchases.

Commodore Cruise Line

16299 Commodore Cruise Line Bohème 1974   $11.99

Farewell Dinner on board the Bohème, 14 June, 1974. This menu, printed on glossy stock, features a portrait of the vessel as seen from Bluebeards Castle. The traveler has noted the date at upper left, and a signature inside most likely belongs to the waiter. The cover shows some creasing at the lower right corner, as well as two faint water rings. Still a nice memento when one considers that this item is (at the time of writing) very nearly 30 years old!
