BACK TO SEA!

Following a brief shore leave we are returning to duty on board NCL's beautiful Pride of Aloha, and will be spending another 20 weeks at sea beginning October 16. We have not ceased purchasing, and have acquired some wonderful examples of memorabilia. These will be added to the site in the future, but we will not be filling orders during our tour. We will have limited time available to answer email inquiries, but please do not hesitate to contact us should you wish us to hold an item or items for you.

VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

We regretfully announce that, as of 2 April, 2005, Cabin Class Collectibles will be closed until further notice as we depart to join the brand new NCL vessel "Pride of America" for an extended assignment at sea.  We will be boarding the vessel at her berth in Bremerhaven, and will be with her as she makes her maiden transatlantic crossing.  The ship is currently scheduled to board her first passengers in June at Miami for a Panama Canal transit prior to reaching her destination on the Hawaiian Islands.  At present, we are scheduled to be with the ship for 20 weeks.  Our website will remain online during our absence, but we will be unable to accept, process and fill orders.  Announcements regarding future changes to the site will be posted as we are able to do so.  Thank you all for your support and encouragement, and we look forward to the opportunity to take part in this historic event as a brand new American flagged vessel takes to the seas!

March 7, 2005

Please note that, as of 3 March, we are temporarily reverting to our old telephone number: (972) 235-8639. Also, be advised that we may be accepting an extended assignment with Norwegian Cruise Line, and may be placing Cabin Class in "mothballs" for the duration. Stay tuned for details!

A Sad Day

We are very disappointed to have to announce that we have been informed by Semester at Sea that, as of 2 June, 2004, the venerable s/s Universe Explorer (nee s/s Brasil) has been officially replaced by the Olympia Explorer (renamed "Explorer) and this new vessel will be making the New Year Panama Canal transit. We have been told that World Explorer Cruises intends to continue to sail Universe Explorer, but we have no doubt that she will soon follow her sister to the beach at Alang. We have been assured that all who have booked with us for the Panama Canal transit on the former s/s Brasil will receive a full refund for monies deposited with Semester at Sea. For those of you who have been following the Universe Explorer Project, work on the models will continue, so stay tuned!

A Couple of Mother's Day Gems and More....!

Check the "Bridge" for an exceptional brass inclinometer salvaged from the Queen Mary. For you Normandie fans - a very rare, French-made, tin litho wind-up floor toy depicting the ship, which you will find in the "Gift Shop." Yes, the price tags for these items are substantial, but both are fine and rare pieces we do not expect to see again! Also, a beautiful Zim Lines teapot just snuck into the "Dining Room." Rail fans will find a very neat and intact (original box) MoPac child's puzzle featuring a Howard Fogg portrait, located at the "Station." And coming later in the week: some interesting United Fruit Company ephemera. Not often seen, so we will be pleased to offer it!

Round Top - Warrenton

Our office will be closed Thursday, March 25 through Saturday, March 27 while we attend the Round Top and Warrenton Texas Antique Festivals. Miles of walking to do, but always worth it! Watch the Cabin Class Collectibles & Dinner In The Diner.com websites in April for our flea market finds!

S/S Brasil (s/s Universe Explorer)
New Year 2005 Panama Canal Transit Announced!

Some exciting news we thought we'd bring to your attention - we have been informed that Semester at Sea is planning a New Year 2005 transit of the Panama Canal on board the s/s Universe Explorer, and is offering an itinerary geared towards cruise passengers, as opposed students. The rates for this historic voyage aboard this classic vessel (sister ship to the s/s Argentina, currently being cut up at Alang) will be quite reasonable for a 17 day voyage, which departs Fort Lauderdale on 27 December, and arrives San Diego January 12. Ports of call will be Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Belize City, Colon, Balboa, Puntarenas, Puerto Quetzal, and Acapulco. Published rates range between $1575-$3275 per person, double occupancy. You can't beat that for such an historic and interesting voyage and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! We will be posting more details as they become available to us. As we have said in the past, Cabin Class Collectibles came into being, in part, due to this vessel and her sister, and we do intend to be on board!

Please be advised that our office will be closed for the holidays from 24 December through 6 January. We will be receiving phone messages and email, and should you wish to place an item on hold during this time, please do so.  You may also submit an order online, and these will be processed upon our return, in the order they were received.  Warmest wishes to all for the season!

Just In Time to Stuff Your Stocking!

For those of you who missed out on the last RMS Olympic enamel portrait pin, well.......check out the "Gift Shop"!

Brochures & Deck Plans Galore!

Watch the Purser's Office pages in the coming days, as we have just acquired a large collection of deck plans and brochures, and will be adding these to the website as time allows.  A selection from Cunard and White Star will be added today - some of these are quite rare and interesting!

September 16, 2003
A Fond Farewell to an Old Friend

We will be out of the office Sept. 16-18 as we head to New Orleans to pay our respects to the former S/S Argentina (s/s Enchanted Isle) as she prepares to sail for the breakers. One might say that Cabin Class Collectibles owes its existence to this fine vessel, and it will be a sad day indeed when she casts off for the final time.

Buying Trip!

Please note that we will be away on a two week buying trip between August 13 and August 26.  We hope to bring back some interesting items for you!  We will be checking phone messages and email, should you wish to place something on hold while we are away.

July 14, 2003

Check the Smoking Room in our steamship section for an extremely fine example of White Star's lithographed cigarette tin, featuring an image of Olympic. This colorful and much sought-after item is rare in this condition - don't miss out!

July 13, 2003

At last, we have undertaken and completed a long overdue task - our increasingly large inventory of airline memorabilia has now been divided into categories for easier browsing. We have done this in a similar manner to our steamship categories, and you will now find the Galley, for food service related items; the Cabin, for passenger related items; the Cockpit, for crew related items, and the Terminal, for tickets, postcards, advertising, and souvenirs. Much-requested airline postcards are now being collected and inventoried, and will have a section of their own within the "Terminal." We must thank those of you dedicated airline aficionados who have demonstrated a tremendous interest in airline items, and have prompted us to continually increase the size of our inventory in that area.  We look forward to adding even more items, and expanding our scope as well, as the interest in aviation memorabilia continues to rise.

March 17, 2003
Look for some very wonderful, late 19th century paper items from Cunard's Campania, Lucania, and Aurania. Also, a wonderful, 1895 American Line broadside advertising the steamships St. Louis, St. Paul, New York, and Paris.

So You Waited 'til the Last Minute.....?

Don't worry!  We'll be in the office through Christmas Eve, December 24, and can get those gifts to you!  We expect high call volume, so do leave us a message if you get our voice mail, and we'll get right back to you. Cabin Class Collectibles will be closed from December 25 through January 5, and will reopen January 6, 2003. Any orders submitted after December 24 will be processed and shipped immediately upon our return. Happy Holidays!

If It Looks a Bit Dusty Around Here.....

We're in the process of giving the site a bit of a re-vamp as we undergo a long-overdue maintenance once-over. No major changes, but you may notice some differences from page to page as we test colors and layout options. Should you notice anything really peculiar, out of place, or non-functioning, do let us know!

November 26, 2002
Normandie Sails Again!

Check the Purser's Office for a 1936 Normandie passenger list with many celebs on board - also a really NEAT deck plan!  There's a private dinner menu from the same crossing listed in the Dining Room as well.  Airline aficionados will find some great Braniff and Air France items from the 1970's. Our airline section has grown to the point that we will soon be reorganizing it in a manner similar to that of our steamship section. Watch for "The Galley" for food service related items; "The Terminal" for flight bags and various souvenirs; "The Cockpit" for crew-related items; "The Passenger Cabin;" etc.. We hope this will make browsing a bit simpler for those of you looking for specific types of items.

Steamship China Pattern Pages and More!

Please note that we have placed a new link on our home page to our recently created china pattern archive. This archive is only in its beginning stages, but we already have 100+ patterns posted! We have started with steamship line patterns, and will move on to railroad and airline as patterns are submitted. We are hoping that all of you with examples of china not illustrated will contribute images and descriptions for inclusion. Many have bemoaned the loss of Zack Jennings' Steamship China Collector site, and we have long wanted to have a space to record the interesting and unusual patterns which pass through our hands - now we have that opportunity!

Crash! (Not you, John)

Please be advised that we had the misfortune of suffering a hard drive crash on 5/20.  Thankfully, all files were backed-up!  We are now (hopefully) near 100% operational, but will be restoring files for a while so please pardon any brief delays in responses to email inquiries.  Also, should you have attempted to contact us during the past two weeks and have not received a response, please re-submit your inquiry as it is possible your message was not received due to our PC's apparently gradual loss of memory!

April 21, 2002

Just a brief note to let you know that new items are currently trickling into the catalogue, but we wanted to make you aware of an especially wonderful piece acquired today - an authentic Matson Lines house flag, manufactured by the famous Valley Forge Flag Company of Spring City, Pennsylvania. Not a display piece or travel agency decoration, but the genuine, hung from the mast, shipboard item! This is a great piece, and in super condition. You will find it listed and illustrated in the Bridge. You'll definitely need to use your imagination to get a true impression of its size - 6" x 3½'!

Also, for those of you who have found yourselves at a loss without the Zack Jennings' Steamship China Collectors' website - be advised that we are currently working on china pattern pages for your reference use and enjoyment!  These pages will be developed in conjunction with the restaurant china pattern pages currently being tested at our satellite site, Dinner in the Diner.com. Of course we will be asking for submissions of your unusual examples and patterns!

Cabin Class Growing!

We owe a great deal to all of you who have made Cabin Class Collectibles a successful Internet venture. Thank you, thank you, thank you!  We are in the process of making a couple of changes on the site, and thought we'd let you know. First, in order to greatly expand our restaurant china inventory, and keep the site from attaining truly monstrous proportions, we have decided to "spin off" our restaurant ware pages, and have created a new site just for them: Dinner In The Diner.com . Watch for a lot more additions to this site in the coming months.

We have also built a third site: Half Doll Heaven.com . This is a site for the collectors of half-figures, pincushion dolls, and vintage figural dresser ornaments. For those of you who might wonder what in the world we're doing playing with dolls.....! First, we've been buying these little items for years, to add to Mom's incredible collection. Second, a half doll has been recorded having been found with a Hapag celluloid tag attached, and her dress labeled to indicate she had been sold on the Deutschland! As we couldn't find a Website dedicated to these items, we decided to fill the niche!

We have a great deal of travel planned for the coming year, and though this might put us "out of reach" a bit more frequently, it will certainly mean we'll have an opportunity to acquire a great deal of new material. Currently, we plan to be at the Round-Top Flea Market at the end of March, and the Brimfield Market in May. We do indeed hope to attend the SS United States Anniversary Party on board the Queen Mary in July as well.

Email Difficulties!

Should any of you have experienced difficulties contacting us recently, please be advised that MSN has once again proved their ineptness at maintaining consistent service. We have begun the process of changing ISPs, and have temporarily rerouted our email to another account. If you have had a message "bounced back" recently, please try sending again. We do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Should you continue to experience problems, don't hesitate to phone us at 972-235-8639. Again, we are sorry for any problems you might have experienced, and promise to remedy the situation!

Happy New Year!

Best wishes to all of our clients on this first day of 2002. We hope the year will bring us the peace we're all looking for!

Just a brief announcement regarding the Consignment Gallery; as we have long intended, we have moved our consignment items into our regular catalogue listings. We hope this will give them a bit more visibility, and make browsing a bit easier. Consignment listings will appear with our own inventory items in their respective categories, and will be highlighted with a green background. As always, if you are interested in placing any of your surplus items with us for sale, don't hesitate to contact us at: consignments@cabinclass.com

Update Complete (Almost)!

We have now completed the addition of over 200 new items to the site. The only pieces from our recent trip which were not included are a very nice and exceptionally large photo of Queen Mary arriving at New York with troops on board, and a great advertising piece featuring the Mary as well - both need cleaning and re-mounting. The gem, however, is an excellent example of Norman Wilkinson's night time rendering of one of White Star's "Big Four". This piece is undergoing some very minor restoration, and will be made available very soon! With the exception of the famous image of Titanic/Olympic, this is likely on of the most attractive and desirable items of White Star Line advertising art.

Ready For The Holidays!

We are indeed back in the office after an extended road trip. Many new and very interesting items were discovered along the way, so watch the site in the coming weeks. Many thanks to those of you who were so patient during our absence. We hope you will be delighted with our finds!

November 15, 2001
Thanksgiving Trip

We will be out of the office beginning November 17 through December 1 as we enjoy a brief respite around the Thanksgiving Day holiday. We will be covering many miles on the road, and of course will be looking for new and interesting items along the way. We will checking phone messages and email, so we won't be totally "out of touch". We had hoped to update prior to our departure, but will do so immediately upon our return.

November 16, 2001
Last Minute Additions!

We had a few moments this morning to sneak in a few new items........look for some lovely Cunard Foley china in the Dining Room, and three delightful souvenirs in the Gift Shop; a butterfly wing dish from RMS Queen Mary, a rare souvenir life ring with photo from Hapag's Kaiserin Auguste Victoria, and an exquisite enameled watch fob, (this one's a gem!) from White Star's RMS Cedric.

November 10, 2001
Legend-ary Additions!

Approximately 50 new items added to our airline section today - including a quantity of Legend Airlines china and glassware - get it while you can! Coming in the next week: some wonderful new steamship items to help you fill your holiday shopping list!

October 23, 2001
Couldn't Wait!

We dropped in three delightful pieces today, as they are wonderful, unusual, and all gems! Look in the Dining Room for a Cunard White Star chamber pot by Minton, A Union-Castle Line chamber pot by Ashworth, and a Vaccaro Line (Standard Fruit & SS Co.) condiment holder by Elkington. Enjoy!

October 3, 2001
Off Again!

We will be out of the office between October 4 and October 8 as we attend the Round Top and Warrenton Antique Shows. Watch for a major update upon our return as we already have 250 new items ready to be added to the catalogue, and you never know what we might find this weekend!

August 4, 2001
Back from a brief trip!

Brought back from our journey last weekend: some very lovely examples of WWII era Japanese steamship china from the Mitsui Line - these pieces retrieved from a wreck by Navy divers in 1943. Also, for you Great Lakes collectors, two lovely pieces of silver from the Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Co.. Miscellaneous items scattered throughout the catalogue.

Postcard collectors - we haven't abandoned you! A nice selection of new cards to be posted within the month!

And......

Due to the tremendous response we have received from the addition of our airline collectibles section, thanks in part to the recent article about our airline items in Lucky Magazine, we are redoubling our efforts to acquire new and interesting examples of airline memorabilia. Should you have specific interests, or can offer us guidance as to what to look for, don't hesitate to contact us!

January 2001

November - December 2000
EMAIL PROBLEMS - HAVE YOU TRIED TO REACH US RECENTLY?

We are currently experiencing email difficulties, and realize we have not received many of your emails over the past weeks.  All @cabinclass.com addresses are forwarded to an MSN email account, and it seems MSN is reluctant to send them along due to network difficulties which are beyond our control!  We have now altered our forwarding instructions and believe we have remedied the situation.  We sincerely apologize for any difficulties which may have arisen.  Our messages are now being forwarded to our Hotmail account - you may use the email links where they appear, or email us directly at: cabin_class@hotmail.com.  If you have attempted to contact us within the past weeks and have not received a response, please drop us another note, or call us at: (972)235-8639.

October 26, 2000

New items from our Round Top Flea Market trip and a few other very interesting acquisitions have been added to the catalogue. Thanks to all of you who have responded so enthusiastically to our expanded airline section! We plan to continue to add items as we find them, and have asked our buyers to be on the lookout for interesting examples of airline china, flatware, and glassware, in addition to ocean liner and railroad items. And yes, we do anticipate addition of an airline postcard page as our knowledge base and inventory allows!

August 27, 2000

Scan the catalogue for about 50 new items of all types. For those of you who have always wanted an extremely unusual item to serve as the centerpiece for your collection, take a look at the amazing Italian wood inlayed portable game table and accessories from the Angelina Lauro. Perhaps not a terribly old piece, but certainly not too many around - and from a disaster ship at that!

Thanks to those who have taken the time to comment on our new look - it makes the extra effort worth it!

August 21, 2000

Pardon our dust!.......as we give the site a facelift.  We hope you'll like our new look. We've kept our basic layout, so you'll be able to navigate the site as you always have. As always, your comments are welcome!

June 24, 2000

Due to the increasing popularity of our restaurant china page, we have now divided the page into eight categories. A great number of you have expressed interest in the items we have offered in the past, so we have decided to be a bit more diligent in searching for more interesting items to add to our inventory in the restaurant china category. We hope the new pages will make browsing a bit easier as our stock of restaurant and commercial china items begins to grow!

May 28, 2000

Our Memorial Day update is complete! Look for some beautiful menus from Michelangelo of the Italian Line, and Bergensfjord and Stavangerfjord of NAL. Also, we recently acquired some near mint Italian Line china - Ginori's Oriental pattern, circa 1950's, as well as some of the popular "Signal Flag" china from American Export Lines. In the purser's Office, for those of you with "space to fill", a magnificent model of Cunard's Franconia from Art Model Studios. This is a very large wooden model, quite impressive! For Queen Mary fans, we have added an incredible 1936 souvenir booklet, one which we had not seen.....it is truly an amazing piece which cannot be adequately illustrated or described. More items scattered throughout the catalogue in all categories; and don't miss the new items, including some gems from White Star's Olympic, in our Consignment Gallery!

January 14, 2000

We are very proud to announce that Cabin Class Collectibles has been named one of the Top 20 Websites for Collectors on the Internet by Collectibles Flea Market Finds Magazine.
