American Airlines
| 14115 | American | 1940 | $179.99 | ||
An incredible piece of American Airlines memorabilia! This cardboard hatbox bears a portrait of AA's DC-3 "Flagship America" in flight, both on the box lid and on the bottom. Each end of the oval container is decorated with the AA flag, "Stetson," and "Flagship" in red. The entire box is covered with images of blue sky and clouds. A canvas strap with snap secures the lid, while a shorter section serves as a handle for carrying. It is possible that these boxes were furnished to passengers; however, we have listed it in this category as it comes to us from one of American's first stewardesses. Showing some slight age toning and light wear at the edges, but otherwise in extremely nice condition considering its ephemeral nature! We doubt a large number of these have survived. |

A rare and wonderful item from an American Airlines stewardess. This enameled silver bracelet belonged to Sylvia Gross. The bracelet is mounted in a frame accompanying Miss Gross' photo. We were more than pleased to discover not only that her name appears on the reverse of the image, but also a notation that she was 26 years of age when the photo was taken, and the year was 1946. Though we can not be 100% certain, it appears as if Miss Gross had her wings transformed into a bracelet, apparently by a very accomplished jeweler, as the job was wonderfully executed! We are offering this rare item and photo framed as found. An exceptional piece of American Airlines history. It is a delight not only to be able to offer this item, but also to be able to identify its original owner! |

Pan Am

As we were just mourning the loss of our American Airlines "Flagship" hat box, along came this wonderful example from Lee for Pan Am! This oval hat box is complete with inside hat form, and is covered with metallic silver paper, decorated with multiple images of Pan Am's "Clipper Bald Eagle," a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser. (Purists may note that she is designated "NC 1024V" instead of "N1024V.") The box shows light soiling and minor roughness around the edges - nothing in excess of what one might expect from a piece of this vintage. This box displays wonderfully, and will be a great addition to any collection of Pan Am Clipper memorabilia! |
