half doll thumbnail We assume this figure to be a Japanese copy of the popular German figure, but she is devoid of markings. Interesting in that great attention was paid to the decoration of her eyes, yet her lips are rather haphazardly applied - perhaps the decorating process for these figures was in the order of an assembly line, and the lip decorator was not quite up-to-snuff! There are a few tiny specks of errant color in her flesh tone, but she is otherwise undamaged.

half doll thumbnail A Japanese half figure, stamped: "Japan" and incised "3170". This little lady wears a pink laced bodice, and pink hat with blue (plumes?). She holds in her hand a green hair brush or mirror. A very similar model appears on page 249 of The Collectors' Encyclopedia of Half-Dolls, although reportedly incised: "3190".

half doll thumbnail A charming little figure with a nice expression, wearing a large pink hat with a blue flower, and holding a closed fan to her chin. In addition to her oversized hat, her face is framed by a large white ruff. She is incised, as well as stamped, "Japan" on the reverse. She is also incised with a number which appears to end with "72", and any previous digits, if there are any, are obscured by a drip of glaze. Excellent condition.

half doll thumbnail Though unmarked, we assume this little doll to be of Japanese origins. She has wonderful character, somewhat reminiscent of a bar maid; and she holds a very interestingly placed flower in her right hand. A blue-grey ribbon and bow ties her hair, and her bodice is lime green. An expressive little creature right out of Oliver Twist! Quite similar to the numbered figure which appears on page 259 of The Collectors' Encyclopedia of Half-Dolls, though this lady has no sew holes.
