13137 W. Goebel 3" $75.00

half doll thumbnail A version of this model appears on page 72 in the Encyclopedia. This figure differs in that she has no necklace. It is possible that she is a later casting, and the detail was lost due to mold wear. She is incised with the Goebel trademark, the number 1806, and Bavaria. She has also been stamped "Germany" along the bottom edge of her base. We will tell you that the Goebel mark is extremely difficult to see, as it has been obscured by thick glaze application, but a very bright light shone from within does reveal it. The decorator slightly misplaced her left eye, which appears to droop just a bit.

13142 Unknown Maker 4¼" $85.00

half doll thumbnail A country girl who is apparently one in a series of dolls most commonly decorated with iridescent glazes. Though this particular figure does not bear that decoration, her number and markings show unquestionable similarities. Incised: "Made In Germany" across both her lower back and the front of her base. She is also incised "14505" on the reverse of her base. A number appears in red, applied to the inside of her base. This is not quite legible, and though it appears to be "20", it could just as well be the "44" reported in the Encyclopedia. The black glaze used for her bodice makes her quite striking, however the components of the glaze caused it to "bubble" a bit, giving the surface a slightly rough look. This does little to detract from the figure, but we thought we'd mention it as it likely will not be visible in the image.   SOLD

13141 Unknown Maker 4" $85.00

half doll thumbnail A colorful flapper with a wide-brimmed hat in light blue, and a sleeveless blouse in orange and iridescent green. Incised: "Made In Germany" across her lower back and front of her base; she is stamped: "Germany" in red on the back of her base. We can find no numbers incised on this figure. A similar figure, numbered "14505", appears on page 157 of the Encyclopedia. There was apparently a series of similar dolls produced, almost certainly by the same company, and all decorated with iridescent glaze. There is a marking in red inside her base which appears to be the number "32"; however we are always hesitant to say with absolute certainty that this is a number, as decorators would quite commonly "sharpen" their brushes on the inside of a figure's base before applying small details such as lips or eye lids. Of interest on these figures is indeed the eye decoration - some appear with both upper and lower lids lined, while another decorator was a bit more restrained, lining only the upper lid. When compared side by side, this variation in treatment creates quite a marked difference in appearance.

13140 Unknown Maker 4" $120.00

half doll thumbnail Tennis anyone? This wonderful young lady has apparently just finished her match. She holds her racquet and a tennis ball, and has wrapped her shoulders in a light blue shawl. She is incised: "Made In Germany" across her lower back. We know these figures to have been incised with the same marking on the front of the base, and with a five digit number on the reverse. The mold was likely worn when this figure was cast, as only the slightest remnants of these base markings are visible - only the number "5" can be seen on the reverse. This model is seen in a variety of iridescent colors. This particular combination of pale yellow and light blue is quite attractive. A similar figure, though with quite different eye treatment, appears on page 156 of the Encyclopedia. SOLD

13139 Unknown Maker 3½" $45.00

half doll thumbnail This figure wears a white bodice with yellow bows and mid-length, ruffled sleeves. A single blue ribbon in her hair, though modeled beads appear across the back of her elaborate coiffure. Incised "4344" and "Germany". She is made of a more opaque porcelain, as opposed to the translucent china one usually sees. This is a nice example of this somewhat common figure.
