This little brush doll mimics a very popular German figure. Her white bodice is laced with blue bows, and in her hair, a matching ribbon. The top of the brush, at the point it meets the figure's base, has a paper wrap, and she is ready to be dressed by her owner. Stamped: "Made in Japan" and incised: "Japan" beneath the stamp.

Quite a nice brush doll, stamped: "Made in Japan" on the reverse. She is wrapped with satin ribbon at the point where her base meets the brush, and a small loop of cord projects from the reverse, from which you might hang her. She is quite colorfully decorated, and though her left eye seems to droop just a bit, she is still a very nice example.

An exceptionally charming powder jar, numbered: "5842" and with a mark in red on the bottom of the base which appears to be the letter "F". Wonderfully expressive and delightfully decorated with a combination of gloss and matte finish glazes. 11 colors have been used to great advantage on this figure, and a treat are the tips of her wooden clogs, painted black, which protrude from under her skirt. This piece is in excellent condition. An item to brighten any dressing table! | SOLD

A truly excellent figure, whose purpose is a bit of a mystery. When one lifts off the head and large white ruff, one finds a small, ink well-sized hole. Certainly, were the piece to have been used as an ink well, one would expect some residue of ink to remain - there is none. The depth of the reservoir is less than 1", and the oval opening is 1" across at its widest point. The modeling and decoration are both outstanding, and indicative of German craftsmen, though no maker is indicated. An extremely fine piece. | SOLD

A week prior to finding this delightful little figure we had brought home a very similar half-figure in the form of a bottle stopper. She wore the same headdress, and held a single duck with an open beak which served as the spout! When we spotted this "sister piece", we couldn't resist her! Her base is incised: "1965", (certainly not her date of manufacture!) and she is stamped as being imported from Czechoslovakia. She sits with her feathered friends, and behind her is a "basket" intended to hold either toothpicks, or were she a dresser figure, perhaps hair pins. Her condition is excellent, and she is exceptionally charming!

A truly delightful figure! This brush is topped with the head of a pink parrot or, more appropriately, a yellow-crested cockatoo. Marked "Germany" as well as with a number which appears to be "9088". The figure itself measures 3" in height, and is 7½" including the brush. Condition is excellent! | SOLD

Another wonderful figure, this one on a clothes brush. One can be nearly certain that this particular item was intended for a man's dresser top. Marked "Germany" and what appears to be "8578". We had a spirited debate with some friends as to whether this figure represented a dog or a wolf - this remained unresolved until we arrived back in the office and turned over the box, which is clearly printed: "412 Jr. Police Dog"! Needless to say there is absolutely no doubt that the box is indeed original! A very attractive piece, the browns of the shepherd complimented by the olive bristles of the brush.

A delightful "double" collectible! This large dusting brush is topped with a marvelous Art Deco figure. She has the characteristics of a Diaghilev dancer, with flared sleeves, and wrists cocked at nearly perfect right angles. A wonderful detail on this figure appears on the duster's handle - a sticker from Chicago's 1933 "Century of Progress" World's Fair, which makes this item one of the simplest figures to date! The handle is tied with a ribbon both where it joins the figure, and where it attaches to the puff, which is off-white to pale pink, with a shock of dark pink at the reverse. The figure's gold coif shows some wear, but she is otherwise undamaged. We are just able to make out a portion of what appears to be the number "9289" on her base, but can find no other markings. A truly unique item! | SOLD

A gorgeous Pierrot powder dish. A nearly identical figure is illustrated on page 575 of the Encyclopedia, and the figure appears on page 302 in the color photo section as well. The sole difference is the color of the figure's cap, which is solid black on this particular example. Measuring 4¾" in length, and marked with the letter "S," the Voight crown, and the number 24406. There is a very small scuff on the very top of the cap where the white underglaze shows through, otherwise beautiful!
