| Pattern description:
The pattern illustrated is one of a series of six sailing ship designs
which appear on this china. The plate itself has a scalloped edge, and a
3/8" embossed band with a herring bone design at the rim. The edge is
decorated with a gold line. Beneath each ship, and placed between a pair
of anchors, is the century during which
that particular vessel sailed - in this case: 1800. The other five,
beginning with a Viking long boat, are dated 1000, 1400, 1500, 1600, and
1700. Each of the six ships
features the three-crown Swedish American Line logo on a sail. Pattern notes: Company documentation indicates that these plates were sold on board, as well as used in the dining rooms. A 1958 passenger list notes the price for a set of six as $9.75! Submitted by: Cabin Class Collectibles Contributors: Resources: Restaurant China, Vols. 1 and 2 by Barbara Conroy |
