matson item detail
matson bombay pattern detail Pattern description: This is a beautiful multicolored pattern featuring tropical flowers, leaves, and branches. The line is dark green. Body color is white. There are three basic branching designs of similar size and shape, each featuring different flowers; two of which appear on the egg cup illustrated. Additionally, a small branch appears on the inside of this cup - upon examination it is apparent that this branch is merely a cropped section of one of the larger designs. Sometimes backstamped for the line on larger items.
Pattern notes: "Bombay" is the name given to this stock pattern by Syracuse, and examples manufactured in the 1970's feature gold rim decoration, plates having scalloped rims. These underglaze decals are also seen applied to ivory-bodied china, and we have unfortunately found examples of these at transportation shows, offered as Matson Lines china. Matson china is invariably white, and though green-lined examples are believed to be exclusive to the line, only backstamped pieces should be accepted as absolutely authentic.
