| Pattern description:
This is a very interesting pattern from Holland-America. The saucer is
simplest to describe: ivory body color with a single, narrow gold line set
in just over 1/8" from the edge. The cup decoration is a rather
elaborate combination of lines and a band. Beginning at the lip, one finds
gold, then a space where the ivory body color is exposed, then a line of
tan with a very narrow black line at it's center, then ivory again.
Together, these lines measure just over ¼". The body of the cup is
then almost entirely covered with a wide, black (or extremely dark brown)
band. This extends almost to the foot, but allows space for one narrow
gold line, then a narrow line where one sees, once again, the ivory body
color. The top and outside edge of the handle is gold; inside, ivory. Pattern notes: We have been told by a collector that a black, matching saucer does indeed exist. To this date, however, we have discovered nearly a dozen of these sets as illustrated, coming to us from all parts of the country, each with an ivory saucer.
