american export item detail
Pattern description: This striking pattern features the bow view of a clipper ship, encircled by the name "American Export" in gold. The edge is lined with gold as well. The overall color is a deep red-maroon; the underside is white. The logo measures a bit over 3¼" in diameter on this large service plate.
Pattern notes: When American Export Lines joined Isbrandtsen Lines and became American Export Isbrandtsen Lines in the early 1960's, this china pattern was retained. However, on new china ordered, "American Export Isbrandtsen Lines Inc." replaced "American Export", and the lettering style was changed from Gothic to Roman. The principal pattern elements, i.e. glaze color and clipper logo, remained identical. On-board use saw the two variations intermingled, and therefore it is accepted in the field to refer to both as the "Constitution" pattern.
