simple "S" in narrow, shaded, Old English script appears
as a topmark on this china. The ware is additionally decorated with
a dark green line outermost, adjacent to a fine, rust line. Another
rust line appears innermost. The compote pictured bears no
manufacturer's markings, but is almost certainly a Syracuse item.
