Unidentified Topmarks - U.C.

We
seem to run across a number of topmarked items bearing the initials
"U.C." or "C.U.," and these appear in such a
variety of designs and configurations that they cannot possibly all
be from the same establishment! This particular crest is applied as
an underglaze decal, in brown and black. The monogram is centered in
a ribbon-wrapped wreath, with bows above and below. A fine rust line
is placed at the edge. No backstamp is extant, but this is almost
certainly a Syracuse piece. Boston's "Union Club" may be a
candidate for this beautiful crest, as the club indeed has a
reputation for offering elegant dining facilities.
