Body Color:
White
Decoration: Red (pink)
Pattern Description: Transfer print decoration, featuring large
sunflowers with smaller blooms and detail. A single line is placed
outermost. All decoration is red-pink on white body. Circa
1930's-present.
Notes: Considered by many to be Syracuse's most popular and
recognizable pattern, "Roxbury" was created by John
Wigley, head of the engraving department at the company. Quite
reminiscent of Wm. de Morgan's Art Deco pottery and tile designs,
Wigley reportedly spotted the pattern on the apron of a plant
worker. This version (with the red line added) is considered to be
very collectible, as it was used by the Kansas City Southern
Railway, and can be seen in promotional photos of their dining cars. |
