Body Color:
White
Decoration: Cobalt blue
Pattern Description: Spanish galleon flying a pennant with waves and
clouds in cobalt blue on white body. 1920's-1950's.
Notes: Also produced in blue on tan-bodied ware. Brown-on white
examples are known as well (see "Viking - Brown") and other colors
may exist. Early items bear the name "The Viking" in the
backstamp. A unique and striking pattern known to have been produced
by other makers. It may well have been originally inspired by a
popular pattern known as "Blue Sailing Pirate Ships,"
which appeared on tea sets in the late 19th Century. Design of the
original pattern is credited to
James Bromfield, and was produced by the famous Rookwood Pottery. |
