Body Color:
Tan
Decoration: Red, yellow, blue, green, black
Pattern Description: A stepped, triangular design repeated on the
rim and hand-filled in red, blue, and green. The four, equidistant
elements are connected by a single, black line at the verge. The
center (plates) features a sun symbol likely based on that found on
a piece of pottery discovered at the Zia Pueblo in New Mexico, a
variation of which was adopted by the state as its official symbol.
1930's-1960's.
Notes: This pattern, identified as P 116 by Syracuse, is illustrated in 1930's catalogues, and can be
found with 1960's date codes - interestingly, it is less common than
the time frame would seem to indicate, and it may not have been in
continuous production. A very similar pattern was produced by
Iroquois, though seen without the black line. McNicol also produced
a nearly identical version, named "Kiowa." |
