Body Color:
White
Decoration: Red
Pattern Description: A design likely inspired by the Victorian artist William
de Morgan's pottery and tiles, this pattern features large,
stylized sunflowers, small blossoms, and leaves forming a
continuous, decorative band. 1930's-1980's.
Notes: Commonly seen on the Econo-Rim shape, this pattern is very popular
with collectors of railroadiana, due to its use by the Kansas City
Southern Railroad. However, photographs indicate that the KCS version of this
pattern was additionally decorated with a red line near the edge,
and we have yet to determine with certainty that the railroad used
both lined and un-lined versions. "Roxbury" was originally developed by John Wigley, head of
the engraving and print shop at Syracuse China. He apparently
noticed the design on the apron of a plant worker! |
