Quite
a lot going on in this particular topmark on this cup from Walker China for the
Humpty Dumpty Restaurant of Grand Rapids, Michigan! Humpty (at least
we assume it's Humpty) appears, dressed as a chef and holding a
spatula. He definitely has an "egg" head, but he also
appears to have a bit of a "pig" nose. At right sits a hen
on an egg, with the phrase: "Chicken in the Nest" below.
We strongly suspect this may have been Michigan's answer to
"Chicken in the Rough"! Some brown spotting on the rim of
the example illustrated, and a mfg. flaw (fissure) inside, bottom.
Still a truly wonderful cup!
