A 1902 photograph of Jim Lee, which appeared in a Buffalo, New York newspaper, labeled him: "Best Known Chinaman in Buffalo." Another photo of the same date pictures Jim Lee's Restaurant - a two-story frame house located at William & Michigan streets. The mustachioed Mr. Lee bears a striking resemblance to the figure on this plate, and though the crest isn't what one might expect to see from a Chinese restaurant, we believe Jim Lee's of Buffalo to have indeed been the source. The china is very early ware by Iroquois, and the large, center crest is quite elaborate. Incorporated are a large, flaming torch; Mr. Lee serving a chicken or duck; a lobster, a fish, and a banner with the phrase: "Everything To Eat," all placed upon a large, rayed
circle, measuring 2¾" across. A single black band decorates the rim.
Body color is white.
