A
magnificent service plate from Scammell's Lamberton China for The
Carlton Hotel, Washington, D.C.. This plate features rim decoration
of fruit baskets and acanthus flourishes - typical of and identical
to that which appears on the service plates from a number of hotels
of the period. The center crest is composed of a knight's helm,
crown, and shield placed between a pair of rams rampant. The hotel's
name is emblazoned on a banner below, and is noted in the backstamp
as well. Minor wear to the wide, gilt band on the plate's edge,
otherwise excellent condition.
