Providence Biltmore

|
A
truly wonderful and rare platter from the famous Providence
Biltmore. The rim is decorated with flourishes of green acanthus,
which frame four vignettes picturing the growth of the city over the
years. At center is pictured Roger Williams' landing. Accompanying
Williams are his friends, the Narragansett Indians, from whom he
purchased the land upon which the city was founded. The most modern
of the four vignettes shows the Biltmore to the right of the huge
Industrial Trust building. The Biltmore can be recognized by a pair
of large masts on its roof, which (for a time) supported a wireless aerial. This
pattern may have graced the tables of the hotel's famed "Garden
Room" restaurant.
