Beautiful
china from Scammell for the U.S. Senate. The topmark is magnificent,
featuring an image of the Capitol, surrounded by a ring of 45 stars.
The eagle and shield appear at bottom, and a long banner bears the
words: United States Senate." The entire topmark measures
3" across. The china pattern itself is lovely - a simple, oak
leaf and berry design, with two, rust-colored lines outermost. Of
interest is the fact that the 45 stars seems to contradict the
"Scammell's Trenton China" impressed mark, which, our
reference sources indicate, does not
predate 1923. Oklahoma was granted statehood in 1907, and would
become the 46th state.
