This
china certainly crosses over a number of categories, and may well
deserve a listing at Cabin Class Collectibles, even though we don't
(yet) have a tram category! Wonderful and rare dinnerware made for
the cafeteria at the top of the Cannon Mountain aerial tram - the
first in the U.S., opening in 1938. Syracuse informs us that the
china was ordered between 3/31/38 and 4/24/46. The order card
specifies the custom crest be applied to 8¼" plates only; though cups, saucers, oatmeal nappies, creamers,
and covered sugars were ordered as well. (Apparently, these featured
only the unique blue & brown three-line treatment.) The order
also specifies a
backstamp for the plates; however, this 1946 example is
lacking any identifying markings, and it took some effort to
determine its origin! Need we say rare?!
